Bummer. The article states that there will be 279 residential units replacing 675 apartments. Considering how over-retailed this portion of town is, especially of the "high-end" variety, and the lack of large developable tracts in that location, I am looking at this as a net negative.

This building would have been beautiful to look at. But this discussion brings another question to mind: what would have Houston been like if it wasn't for the bust in the 80's....the downtown/uptown skylines, the population, the demographics....global status and perception. But i don't want to deviate from the original topic. The BOTSW will never be built in houston. the chance of a building that tall being constructed in houston anytime soon is very slim.

Black Hole: Vast Prairies That Lie South Of The Loop
shinoda28107 replied to TheNiche's topic in Other Houston Neighborhoods
i live in the 21st century? yes, these old fears have to change. -
I saw a show on the Food Network dedicated to explaining Houston's diverse food culture (from tex-mex to bbq, to soul food, to Houston's veitnamese culture). They spent a lot of time on Main Street downtown showing the Rail splashing its way through fountains. Anyone watching from outside of Houston may have had the impression that our city is densely populated city united by mass transit. They also showed Downtown's retail and dining scene (it over stated it significantly).

Sugar Land May Gain 30-40,000 Residents In Proposed Annexing

Yeah, the Greater Katy area has a lot of people. But most of it is in Houston's extraterritorial jurisdiction. Katy has very little e.j. unlike Sugarland. -

1. Houston 2. Pasadena 3. Sugarland 4. Baytown 5. Galveston (If The Woodlands were incorporated, it would be 4th) BTW....The Sugarland annexation is fairly old news. The plans have been public since last November. Here is the link: Sugarland Annexation It says, "Sugar Land is also working with other municipal utility districts in the extraterritorial jurisdiction to develop strategic partnership agreements that will outline service and annexation agreements. Communities in these MUDs are Greatwood, New Territory, Riverpark and those in the Plantation MUD (sections of Tara Colony and Tara Plantation)" The combined population of these communities in Sugarland's extraterritorial jurisdiction is slightly less than 50,000. If they were to be annexed by Sugarland, the city's population could far exceed 100,000. -
Yes. If we are to keep the Astrodome, lets use it more (even if it is an experiment). A convention hotel in the Reliant complex has plenty of potential for success. You never know if it would be convenient for whatever may be constructed on Astroworlds plot. Placing a hotel in the Astrodome would make Reliant park more self-sufficient and may even ease some congestion along 610 during major events (i said SOME).
