I was a waitress there in 1979--i was a very responsible young woman, showed up for my shifts--and pucked up a lot of others, too; didn't drink or do substances; didn't date or bang the clientele (as other staff members did); and they did't know I was underage-- it was 1979, we didn't have background checks or I-9s. We had a Dr. Ann ?, who was a sex change, and her girlfriend, known as "Little Ann" or "The Other Ann" as regulars. One night our bouncer, Shane, bet Little Ann and I $100 each to have a lip smacking kiss in the middle of the floor. Game on, Shane. We had this strange maybe 6'x6' underlit floor in the middle of the game room we referred to as "the dance floor." Shane cleared it with the manager, Glenn and it was a go. Come 11pm Shane calls us to the middle of the floor and he has this really "good looking guy" he'd been talking to and playing pool with earlier in tow with him. Little Ann took over the kiss and dang, that woman could kiss! Was wondering if we'd share a panty drawer afterwards. Had to dodge numerous offers for threesome and moresomes afterwards, too. I ended up meeting "Mr. Good Looking Guy", Patrice Dubois of France, who was the chef at LaQuiche off of Gessner & Westheimer. Loved him beyond measure. My Grandmother ensured our relationship didn't progress and I put my education first. Tragedy. 44 yrs later, October 2023, I found him via FaceBook in Le Sauze, France. Not sure how this will end, too much hurt and misunderstanding behind who did what to whom. But, yes, I remember Goofey's and Second Office Club next door. I was called to waitress when staff no-showed. Owned by the same group. It sucked being a dependable employee --expectations were higher and if you failed to live up to that standard it wreaked of double-edged Occam's Razor philosophies and double standards. Those who no called/no showed or show up impaired were held to a much lower expectation and set of standards than those who performed at 125%. I left when those waitresses began complaining it wasn't fair they received less tips than maybe 2 of us that did our jobs, showed up unimpaired, didn't flirt and collect phone numbers, bang our customers in the storage room, kept our areas clean, refilled drinks, ran food/drinks and even covered other areas when staff underperformed and underdelivered or no-showed. They wanted our tips pooled and divided evenly. I could pull in $300-400 on a busy Friday night working 4pm-2am--that was bank in 1979. Thanks, but I'll pass on the socialism experiment. Goofey's paid for my accounting degree at University of Houston.

Rudi Lechner's La Quiche was there at 2503 Gessner--it's now Rudi Lechner's German Restaurant but I believe it may have sold a few years ago but kept the name. I've searched unsuccessfully for 40 years to regain contact with Patrice Dubois who worked there and my nose is permanently flattened from hitting brick walls.
