  1. Yes, and yes, I think the waterproofing on the garage is shot (or something to that effect). I know it’s in their plans and they’ve floated a few renovation ideas. Some good, some .. But I don’t think they’ve announced a particular one, or a timeline on renos.
  2. Aldi’s has the funniest knockoff cereals I’ve ever seen, and so for that reason they’re winners to me.
  3. I wonder if this is one of the rooftop spaces? I want to say that I heard they had been interested in snagging one of them. (incidentally I still have yet to try them!! Maybe I ought to :P)
  4. @__nevii I absolutely agree with you! The Houston area’s natural environments and really cool wildlife (and the neat ecoregions we have) are really what kickstarted younger me into appreciating it here much more than before. (especially gardening!! I really never appreciated how great it is to be able to garden year-round) I think we are really a hidden gem of a city- on the surface, we’re very nondescript and pretty understated, and IMO Houston doesn’t exactly do a great job advertising itself, so I think a lot of people miss out on the great things we have to offer. But you just have to be a self-starter and scratch the surface yourself to see the cool things lurking underneath. I think our worst critics are ourselves, haha! I try to be positive, because sometimes it seems like even our own local media won’t toot our horn at all- ever- even if we do something cool. 😅 sorry to continue the derailment. Back to Helix Park!
  5. I’m pretty sure everyone’s aware by now, but I’ll still post it- Buffalo Bayou Park and Memorial Park will finally be connected by a trail!
  6. Cool! I hope they’ll move on to the next phases soon, too! The renderings were really exciting! I still haven’t gotten the chance to check it out. I hope the gardens are doing okay in this drought.
  7. Austin has pressures that Houston doesn’t- land is expensive, cost to develop is expensive, zoning means they can’t just plop down skyscrapers wherever they want. (Though I’m unsure if they wound up passing zoning reform- anyone know?) I don’t think detached homes and urbanity are mutually exclusive. I mean, the city I immediately think of is Tokyo. They have a lot of SF detached homes in the city and they’re about as urban as it gets. (Though I don’t think I’ve seen as many 4-story homes as here in Houston. Lots of them have carports though.)
  8. Interesting! Green space is always a nice addition! :) Hopefully they can move on to Phase II. The HAIF Penthouse notwithstanding, I wonder how sales are going here?
  9. I was there this afternoon! (No luck figuring out where Ste 2900 is though, sadly!) Anyone know why they have the entire first floor in the X Atrium torn up? It’s on both sides of the staircase, and it’s fenced off.
  10. I meant to post this earlier, but better late than never I suppose! POST is going to play host to Chopd & Stewd, a festival celebrating West African culture and cuisine being headed up by the owners of ChòpnBlọk. It’s gonna be on 9/30 and will take place on the Skylawn. Tickets will start at $45. Eater Article (interestingly the article mentions that they’re fixing to open up a new, flagship outpost for ChòpnBlok in 2024. Anyone have any ideas where that’ll be? 🤔)
  11. Sounds like it could be going on the second floor somewhere….(Warning: Pure speculation ahead. I’m not good at reading filings like some of the GOATs on here! Just doing some digging around their site and doing guesswork) On the POST site, there is a map showing available office space. The furnished space in the Z atrium on the right is 2440. There is a big chunk that says leased that’s directly above it. I’m not sure who the tenant is (nor the suite number) could it be the el tiempo guys? At any rate, I’ll be stopping by POST soonish for date night, so I’ll be sure to do a bit of on-the-ground poking around 😎
  12. Woah, good find! I wonder why it says conversion from office to restaurant- is that what other filings said? Could it be that this is possibly going in at a different part of POST out of the food hall? (Like maybe one of the X or Z atriums?)
  13. What a gorgeous building. The brickwork looks awesome. Really classy and turning out beautifully!
  14. There was an article posted in r/Houston about the region’s homeless initiatives: https://www.governing.com/housing/how-houston-cut-its-homeless-population-by-nearly-two-thirds
  15. Everyone on HAIF chips in and we have a community penthouse. 😀 I’m stepping up to throw my $100 into the ring!
  16. It’s too bad about the old building (what a neat design!) but the new renderings look great, and this will surely be a welcome addition to the area, especially with that nice expanded pedestrian realm fronting Washington.
  17. That comment was also made 4 months ago, so it may not be accurate to what’s happening behind the scenes. It sounds like Texas Central is still involved, so there’s that.
  18. I’m not sure how I’d feel being without a driver on a bus, but that might just be me. For me it’s a safety thing. I’m sure in some ways it’d be cheaper, but idk if I’d like that tradeoff, personally. I’m an outlier who usually likes buses more than trains for that reason. (Even if trains are physically more comfortable)
  19. This was the storm that basically sealed the fate of Brownwood, right?
  20. I love going as well. We park at one of the transit centers and take the silver line because parking is an absolute nightmare, haha. We haven’t had a lot of issues either, but 100% they need more security, I agree. I feel like Simon is dropping the ball with the Galleria (and some of their others too, like FC) in terms of creating an attractive place to be. In an era of online retail (esp. post-COVID) indoor malls are gonna have to work hard to re-invent themselves to stay relevant. And it’s Houston, I want to have nice indoor things to do when it’s the summer, or when there’s torrential rain! Cultural attractions, non-shopping options, stuff like that really ought to be brought in. Whoever manages Memorial City Mall (MCM) has done an outstanding job- the difference some comfortable seating areas makes is amazing. I could (and have!) spend a whole day at MCM- they have done a lot of quality of life upgrades that make it a much more pleasant place to spend time. There’s a ton of amenities for kids, places to sit and rest, phone charging areas, ample non-foodcourt opportunities to get food/drink (vending machines everywhere) and it just feels more updated and comfortable. The Galleria, by contrast, in some ways almost feels hostile to shoppers and expects you to come in, shop, and GTFO. There are definitely great amenities there too (the ice rink! And the nice playground for the kids), but it doesn’t feel like they want people to sit, relax, recharge, and socialize like you can at MCM. So we wind up usually going to one or two places, grabbing something at Starbucks (since there aren’t a lot of comfortable places to sit), then leaving. I wish they’d implement some changes to the Galleria to modernize it. Common spaces. Seating areas. Vending machines. More places for kids to blow off steam. It could really be more than just a mall. It’s got huge numbers of residents nearby, already snagged retail options at all income levels, is on a good high-frequency transit line that’ll soon connect Downtown, and has ample square footage to do some really awesome stuff. If only…
  21. Nice article! Those are some great pictures. I can’t wait for it to cool down a bit so I can check it out!
  22. I grew up near Sugar Land and we saw them in the parks and fields in our neighborhood during the summer. Other places, too. I had always heard they preferred to be around water, but in my experience I didn’t see them much around the creeks/bayous- mostly open or semi-open areas like parks and such.
