Have we confirmed this isn't a Corky's? I'm surprised at all of the speculation when it seems like there's been no indication of change of tenant.
I think there's a little bit of speculation and a lot bit of hoping it turns out to be something better (or at least more interesting) than Corky's.

Vietnamese would be ideal, especially after losing VNwich at the Shops on Navigation before it even opened...
I love Vietnamese, but we've already got Huynh and TH; I'd love some Thai, Ramen, or even decent takeout Chinese (China 101, despite the somehow great reviews was pretty inedible).

Micro-grocer going in at The Plant. "Little Red Box". If you live in the neighborhood or frequent the area, Jeff Kaplan posted a survey he's asking those that would patron the store to fill out.
His post:"Hi all! Will y’all please consider taking a min to fill this survey out? https://forms.gle/ian1LWxUYwQQWdhv6 Little Red Box is a micro-grocer distribution retail concept that will launch in the 2nd Ward at the Plant (Harrisburg and Sampson), we are hoping in the next several weeks.. aiming to provide cleaner food to an under-served community that currently find themselves in “food desert” in the middle of the Covid crisis. By providing grocery delivery and/or nearby grocery pick-up to low-access areas, Little Red Box intends to offer a limited yet highly relevant product assortment, layering in a nudge toward healthfulness (meal planning & recipes), and engaging/empowering individual communities around physical access points. Please take a few minutes to fill out the following survey in order to help us to effectively cultivate your overall future experience and fulfill our community’s specific grocery needs during the Covid crisis and for the future vitality of our neighborhood. Please share with others in our community as well! Stay healthy"
Where did you see this post? Asking so I can follow. Thanks!

There was a lawn crew out there this morning cleaning things up a bit.

It's a little buzzy with the wine bar and beer place 2 blocks catty corner.
Not to mention VooDoo Queen right around the corner, Giant Leap's planned move to adjacent to How to Survive on Land and Sea and the industrial warehouse space on Milby just south of Harrisburg. There's a cool district forming before our eyes and it's kind of awesome.

Stopped by on my bike today and talked with who I assume is one of the owners....he said they will be open in April if things continue as planned - he said they slowed down, but are back on track now..
They will be putting a taco stand in one of the remaining old houses and something else similar in the other one.
They will also be expanding to the lot behind (to the east) the current area shortly
This is all great news; thanks for the update!

2524 McKinney used to be the Axiom, a grunge/metal/punk/alternative venue way back when east of 59 was still a no-man's land. I agree with McKinney feeling prime for a bar/restaurant corridor, and especially that building with its cool history and that hanging arrow sign out front. I'd love to see some bike lanes on McKinney, too. They aren't needed quite yet because car traffic isn't too heavy, but as the area develops I'd love to have that route intact as it's the best way to get to downtown from many places in the Greater East End on two wheels.

Are you sure they're not? It looks like they actually paid a design firm for their proposal.
To be fair, I'm not sure of anything. I just saw this info on their website, which suggests the plans for the building and land are nowhere near solidified:
POTENTIAL USES
•RESTAURANT/ BAR
•BREWERY
•CREATIVE OFFICE
• MAKER SPACE
• GYM/ SALON/ SERVICE
• AUTOMOTIVE

Thanks for posting; I found this online - http://cunninghamtx.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/5021-5101-Canal-East-End-Village.pdf
While it would be cool if the renderings were an accurate representation of what's going to go there, it's just advertising for potential uses for the space.

Has there been any update on this? Is any portion of it finished and available for use? I am visiting in early March and was looking forward to biking wherever possible. Thanks.
The North-South routes along Austin and La Branch have not been started, though I ride frequently through downtown and these are still the best streets to ride on. Austin is usually especially pleasant, at least between Holman and Leeland.

Many of the windows have been replaced and there are people there doing work daily. Today there's a plumbing company van parked outside and construction noises coming from inside.

Houston has kind of a large void in the vegetarian/vegan restaurant space, so I think it'll do well filling that niche.

As you can probably gather from my name, I am pretty excited about this. Chapman just didn't seem like the right fit for the area.
This will be a great addition to the neighborhood.
The downtown spaces will recover, but if Chapman had left without a replacement, it would have taken more time to find a suitable replacement.
I agree. Chapman and Kirby didn't have the right vibe for the area (Miss Carousel does it much, much better), and I'm very excited to have Conservatory taking over the space.

The Dunlavy does weddings, though I'm not sure what their capacity is and it's definitely not cheap. The 1940 Air Terminal Museum at Hobby is a really cool space that definitely does weddings, but not Inner Loop. Other cool spots - Avant Garden, Nouveau Antique Art Bar, Bell Tower on 34th.

Giant Leap Coffee announced plans to relocate from Headquarters on Canal to The Plant on Harrisburg via an Instragram post and Nextseed campaign; the new space will be larger with more seating and a heavier craft beer focus than their current location. With How to Survive on Land and Sea and the upcoming Night Shift, this segment of Harrisburg is quickly transforming.

Any recommendations for dishes at Kanomwan? I've been (admittedly only once) and it was underwhelming, but could have been an off night or maybe I ordered the wrong dish. I'm definitely willing to give it another shot.
