The city mailed Notices of Variance Request on this project. Reference 2020-1119. Hearing will be on Thursday. They are moving quickly.

Woah, did we make it from Monday until mid afternoon on Thursday for a new comment on this? That's gotta be a new record for "longest time without an update." All jokes aside, that's a good update, thanks for sharing. I really do hope this becomes the bastion of development that Rice and the City plan for it to be.

East End Backyard At 1105 Sampson St.
JBTX replied to HoustonMidtown's topic in EaDo, the East End, and East Houston
Based on the number of taps, I would say we are getting a lot more than just 8th Wonder brews. -
Correct. The building that (used to) house Andes Cafe and the Maritime Museum are Phase II.

Just to steer this more back onto subject...Andes lasted a very long time for a restaurant of its style. 7 years, with the last 2 or 3 without their head chef as he was out exploring projects is pretty impressive. It was the construction at 2404 that finally killed them. Plus, they were always full on Sundays. Very popular with the fresa crowd too.

I have not. Been monitoring it closely and you're right. It looks to just be fencing left. Website still says 2020.

Counterpoint: the trolley is moving away from the pedestrian (hence the the cables pulling in the other direction). That said, why does the trolley have a menu? And more importantly, why does it appear to sell burgers, hotdogs, vapes, and baby bottles? As a """millennial,""" I think I'm offended! Also, I take ubmrage to the fact that the Elysian Viaduct isn't painted purple and pink ink their rendering.

Personally, conflating "EaDo" with "East End" annoys me (especially when their are distinct boundaries), but I've come to live with the fact that it's inevitable. I trust EEMD will keep with the subtle reminders such as signage, event names, etc., while people will go around doing/saying their own thing regardless.

Can confirm. Many of my clients who used to use air freight to move smaller volume products are getting pushed off the planes and back to sea. Space on planes comes at too high of a premium at the moment. Too expensive for most.

Your memory serves you well. There was a Midway sign on that property up until very recently.

So it looks to be a replacement of the existing structure and I presume the vacant lot along the railroad. Is that everyone else's understanding too?

East End Restaurant And Bar Scene - More Coming
JBTX replied to sir_foulto's topic in EaDo, the East End, and East Houston
What did you order? Everything I've ever had was great (but I admittedly just eat all the various dogs they have). -
Personally, I'm a HUGE fan of the warehouse with a giant "BIKE LANE" sign in front of it. Really sad how little people pay attention to the obvious bike paths...

You know what they say: Sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail!

I get weird looks when I say it, but Merida's is the best Mexican food on Navigation. Spanks Ninfa's and El Tiempo. Only thing is, Merida's is Mexican, not TexMex, so some of their TexMex is moo (sorry queso). Best dishes: pollo pibil and the salsa with serranos and chili pequines that they don't give to everyone unless they know you (just ask for the "other salsa" or "the hotter salsa"). Not BYOB, probably, but I don't know if they'll stop you.
