  1. Imagining Skanska releasing a statement saying "PSYCH!" then building a huge public square with a big fountain and a statue of Ray Hill.
  2. That HEB Pantry store was nice. I really missed it after it closed.
  3. Why does the area above the green stripe look like a really bad Photoshop cloning job?
  4. From what I read on another website’s forum earlier today, I may be suffering from a “rabid anti-density paradigm” all because I think that stretch of Bissonnet is a stupid place to put this boring-a$$ed tower. Who knew???😳😳😳
  5. You know, back in the early-to-mid 60s, the nearest grocery store to our house was a Weingarten's. Literally about a 5 minute walk from our front door. My mom refused to ever shop there, though, because she said the store literally stank. By the time Weingarten sold their grocery business, their stores were pretty nice. I would shop their West Gray and Dunlavy locations. Looks like my mom was right about them all along, however. They stink to high hell.
  6. Am I just too impatient or is it taking longer than usual for these buildings to rise?
  7. Does that include the Lyric Center parking garage or the Cambridge Office Building parking garage at Rice because both of those are excellent? Also the parking garage at the proposed development at Taft and Fairview was/is definitely not the ordinary schlocky garage.
  8. If you ask me, it’s the developers who are averse to creativity, not any particular parts of town.
  9. Do we know yet what the University of Saint Thomas is planning for the old Library/Black Lab property? I would HATE to see it demolished and replaced.
  10. I didn't. I was merely relieved that my taste is not that of a kid. (I'm being somewhat facetious, here.) Though, I must admit, I personally think even BIG's most gimmicky projects beat Heritage Plaza hands down. Added note: My post with the link to photos of other BIG projects was specifically referring to their façades and not necessarily to the designs of the structures themselves.
  11. Not me. I'm the one who posted the link to BIG's more interesting work. I'm continuously disappointed (when not disgusted) by the timidity of Houston architecture. But Heritage Plaza is still awful.
  12. Well, I guess that means my taste matches my advanced age then because Heritage Plaza (no ‘Texas’ in the name) is a hideous monstrosity and the building with the hole in it in Dallas is... thankfully in Dallas.
  13. Looking at the façades on other BIG projects just makes me go "WHAAA???" with Discovery West. https://bit.ly/3bNnIdJ
  14. I would prefer a less disjointed curve with a horizontal pattern instead of this building's vertical. Not necessarily exactly like the buildings in these photos, but something along these lines. The Skanska design looks blocky to me...like, literally lining up blocks in a curved pattern.
  15. I'm not going to recognize the place when I finally get back to town. 😮
  16. I never called it "Cruise-y Kroger," I always figured "cruise-y" was a given with "disco." Anyway, I used to make midnight Haagen-Dazs runs there starting in 1979. They only had one register open, so there was always a line.
  17. LOL! The Adventures of the Little Red Riding Bag the famous Skalgubar girl travels through renders and visualisations https://littleredridingbag.tumblr.com/
  18. If people in "reality" television actually got fired for stupidity there would be no "reality" television.
  19. Off topic: I was skimming through HBO Max's new "reality" series about the wealthy Vietnamese family who live in River Oaks to see how the shots of Houston look. Just barely into the second episode I turned it off in disgust. Can anyone guess why?
