  1. I like Kroger's for the quick run to the store type things. For a full grocery list I prefer HEB much more. HEB just has a bigger selection and I actually love the cooking demonstrations (I can actually cook a few meals now). Of course, you do have to plan your HEB trip a bit more so I guess it depends on what your shopping needs are.

  2. I actually really like Fish City Grill. They do have some pricer selections, but in generally they have a nice menu for under $8 or $9. Red Lobster is hit or miss with me. Some locations are actually quite good, and others are the dumps. Hopefully we'll get a good one here (can't wait for the cheesy biscuits).

  3. Sam's Boat is okay. I prefer the patio and bar over the restaurant itself. They were having live music every Friday night, but not sure if that is still going on.

I also like a bar called The Wild Geese Tavern (I think). It's in the same area as Norton's. They have good bar specials and lots of pool tables for you pool sharks. I've also heard a couple of live bands there too, but maybe that's only for special occasions.

haven't made it to the Cork Wine bar at the PTC, but wine is not really my scene anyway. BJ's Tavern has a nice bar, but again it's in a restaurant. BJ's also has a happy hour Mon - Thur or Friday and a reverse happy hour Mon- Thur (excellent deep dish pizza at BJ's).

  4. On a serious note, I don't know how all these projects are going to fill their space. Ever wonder why the Shoppes at the Spectrum is flying under the radar (i.e. no press releases)? Ever notice how those new strip malls on FM2234 are doing....vacanct!! Maybe they are waiting for the street to be widened.

That disturbs me too. I'm just afraid we are going to have a lot of vacant buildings which can lead to vandalism problems. Supposedly the "strip center" on the Southeast corner of FM 2234 and Reflection Bay has several tennants lined up. But haven't heard anything about the other vacant buildings. Looks like the bond to start section 1 of the Pearland Regional Sports Park was approved so I guess we might eventually start to have more people heading down FM 2234.

  5. As far as I know that SH288 extends with grid separations from downtown all the way to FM 518. More grid separation is now in the process of construction at South Fork Drive just south of FM 518. Upgrading SH288 to freeway standard will probably continue on one intersection at a time. More frontage road is being added between Beltway 8 and FM2234. For more information concerning SH 288 corridor go to SH 288 Corridor Feasibility Study.

In January or February I spoke to Roger Gonzalez at txdot regarding the feasibility study and basically was told that all the research part was done on, they were creating plans (making decisions?) on what would work best for 288 expansion, HOV, etc.. He said the public would be invited to meetings sometime this fall or winter. With all the new businesses opening up along 288, some attention needs to be spent there.

  6. It would be really nice if they could use some of the massive space for wine, as the article suggests Plus Stores to have. But that's not possible in Brazoria, is it?

It seems that the alcohol laws vary by city or area within Brazoria. I've noticed that some parts of Brazoria are completely dry, some are damp (think Pearland) and then others sell everything. It would be nice if Pearland would change their ordinances so we can get that wine section. :-)

Here is a list from February 2005. http://www.texassafetynetwork.org/issues/w...p_list/list.php

Does anyone know why parts of Pearland (west side) say they are in a dry country and ask for ID so it can be scanned, but if I go to the east side of Pearland there is no mention of dry county and they only check id for age verification?

  7. I think the lifestyle center at 518 and the beltway will have living space as well. I don't know if they will be lofts but go to CBLProperties.com and look up the Pearland Town Center that is slated for 2008. I think the renderings show some type of living space there.

Things have been quiet on the Boulder Creek project. I hope it turns out well because that side of Pearland needs something but it's not getting nearly the press that these other projects are. I haven't heard about any committments from restauarants or retailers.

I just drove by the Jefco Development on Beltway 8 and Pearland Parkway this weekend and I didn't see any construction started yet. Land's cleared and there's a sales office, but no signs of development just yet.

  8. Ok, a few updates on this...

I went to Crosswell Greenwood's site and they have some more details on the plan.

Here is the direct link to the pdf: SCR Village

Remember, this is the planned retail center at the NE corner of Kirby and 2234. They are showing a Walgreens and a Kroger's there. They even changed the little sketch of the buildings to say "KROGER" instead of "GROCERY." Also on their handly little retail map is the proposed HEB at the NW corner of 518 and 288. So there you have it. I don't know how long it will take to build either of these but it appears that they are in progress. Another interesting point, from the two plans, they show Kroger's having 65k sf and HEB having 150k sf.

And lastly, Phase II of Shadow Creek Ranch is shown on the map at the SW corner of 518 and Kingsley. They haven't even cleared the land there yet.

Do you know if SCR Phase II is going to be more residential or shopping centers, etc? This is the first map I've seen that shows anything south of 518 for SCR.
