Don’t see Texas A&M going for this lot as they placed their plans for a new tower on hold after building the parking structure for it.

The site where that tower was planned was ground-leased to Medistar to build office space and serve as a revenue source for the A&M System. That space was not planned to be used by A&M. Medistar put that project on hold, similar to how they put their down the street Innovation Tower project on hold.

  2. Whitmire plans $3 billion in improvements to downtown over 30 years using hotel occupancy taxes.

'"The entertainment district will be going three miles in each direction. It will reach the arts and theater district," Whitmire said.

He said plans are in place to expand the George R. Brown Convention Center to compete with other convention centers.

"We are going to have larger conventions," he said.

And they want to attract big things, possibly even another professional sports team.

"Yes, Toyota Center will get ready for hockey," he said.

Most importantly, the mayor said the purpose is to clean up downtown. Problems that Carol Churchill said she's just seen grow over the years.'

The Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation contracted Stoss Landscape Urbanism to provide a potential plan for a remade, pedestrian friendly waterfront in Galveston. The parking would be moved to garages that could also have greenspace or other pedestrian space (like the sand on the garage in the lower right of the photo). No action was taken but the wharves board may form a committee as this is a priority of the city.

"Intuitive Machines Inc. (Nasdaq: LUNR) was named as one of three recipients for NASA’s Lunar Terrain Vehicle Services contract, which has a combined maximum potential value of $4.6 billion for all awards to multiple companies. For Intuitive Machines, the initial award is valued at $30 million for a feasibility assessment, which will take a year to complete.

The vehicle will be used for NASA's Artemis III mission, which is the agency's first return to the moon since 1972. That mission is anticipated to launch no earlier than 2026. Intuitive Machines' initial award could be followed by further task orders with higher dollar amounts for a term of up to 10 years, the company said April 3."

Axiom Space is a partner on an additional winning proposal, this one by Venturi Astrolab. Venturi's proposal is admittedly less sexy than the other two winners.

"The Houston Airport System (HAS) is seeking industry information and input for innovative strategies and approaches from highly qualified firms that can be applied or included in the development of a subsequent Request for Qualifications (for Statement of Qualifications – RFQ) and Request for Proposals (RFP) that support attainment of the EFD/HSP goal to develop and construct an approximately 120,000 sf specified building with potential uses of light manufacturing/assembly for advanced products, high bay, and office space at Ellington Airport (EFD)/Houston Spaceport (HSP). EFD/HSP is open to, but not limited to, business models provided by a firm (or team) with competencies to Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Maintain (DBFOM)."

I really like the idea of this space.

I also feel like I'm about the only person around that likes the design of the Family Law Center.

Wouldn't hate it if it could be repurposed into a learning space or museum/archive that could serve the purpose and mission of the surrounding park area. I won't be too terribly heartbroken if it comes down however.

If, when it comes down, you find yourself missing it, go take a tram tour of NASA Johnson from Space Center Houston. You'll see plenty of buildings like this one!

Wow.  That's a lot more parking lot and a lot less "public gathering and tribute space" than I expected.  I've seen convenience stores bigger than that.  Though I guess a surface parking lot is an appropriate "tribute" to Houston.

Looking back at the PDF, I guess I should have noticed that it's just a patch of grass with some pavers and a ramada in the middle next to a cinder block wall.

I'm so disappointed the Archdiocese gave up its opportunity to create Houston's own Main Plaza, Jackson Square, or Sister Cities Park.

  8. Redevelopment of the remainder of the Legacy Point or the Union property will begin by March 2025. They will be partnering with LV Collective, a student housing developer out of Austin. This will bridge a major gap in College Station's urban fabric and further help make the north side of campus truly urban.
