  2. I used Taco Cabana once for about 50 people. The price was cheap, the food was okay, but they were 45 minutes late.
  3. And just like a self-storage unit -- it's got a monthly usage fee!
  4. Nice job, Boris. It was a perfect day for Hermann Park. Glad to see so many people taking advantage of it. I wonder what the blue stuff is that's oozing out of the refrigerator on the front stoop?
  5. When I was in first grade (early 70s) my class went on a field trip to the Roy Rogers near Gulfgate. We didn't just stop there on the way to or from another destination -- the trip was specifically to visit the restaurant. It was all great fun to 6-year-olds. But can you imagine the parental uproar that would happen today if a school organized a field trip to a fast food restaurant?
  6. Went to the open house yesterday. It's a superb layout, and it all seems extremely well maintained. A great party house. But I don't see it going for anywhere near $995K.
  7. The appraised value of this house on HCAD is $405,000, and it estimates the market value at $515,000. They're asking almost double that. My god. I wonder what the comparable sales prices are on the block. I'm going to try to go see this today.
  8. Keep doing what you love and it will pay off.
  9. Sorry for the confusion. I assume any link to HAR means the house is for sale.
  10. This was for sale several months -- maybe a year -- ago. I assumed it sold, but the photos are the same so probably they're just trying again.
  11. This defines my house. Geez, it was hard to get used to it. And the master bath is nearly all mirrors. You have to get really comfortable with the way you look!
  12. Wasn't the Archstone Apt complex one of the first new structures on Washington when it was built in the 90s? Could it be said that it helped start the renaissance of the area? One funny story related to Archstone -- when I was going thru a divorce I looked at those apartments to move into. My child wasn't with me when I was there to tour. I asked the saleslady if there were many children in the complex and she said no, it was nice and quiet. Then I mentioned that I have a kid and would like a place with some other kids, and she suddenly changed her mind and said "Oh yes, we've got lots of kids here."
  13. How did the "Mod of the Month" open house go on Sunday? Were there many visitors? Any interested buyers? I was out of town unfortunately and couldn't go see it.
  14. We're only halfway through her visit -- it runs until late April. So the final impact won't be known for some time. I know they've gotten money from me and will get more -- I went once by myself, once with the spouse, and will go this week again with my kid. On the days we can all go together it's too crowded!
  15. Jax, did you have any idea your post would go down this path (pun intended)?
  16. Willowisp: Can we make this the next Mod of the Month?
  17. Wow. You should send these photos to the realtor to replace some of the ones on HAR. With the photos the realtor posted, it's almost as if she WANTS it to be torn down.
  18. I think I read something recently about an event facility going up there -- something you could rent for parties, weddings, etc. I couldn't find anything in the Chron archives, so I don't know where I read it.
  19. I would assume (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that many, if not most, residential home builders don't have an architectural background and would have little appreciation for something like this. How many times have you seen on this forum or others a comment like "who cares -- it's just another old building"? Most people in general don't appreciate modern architecture. A co-worker of mine was talking about the home after she read the article and said "Who would want a home with Formica?" I mean, to reduce the significance of this house to "yucky Formica" is ridiculous, but prevalent. (Next time I'll tell her that I just installed new Formica in my kitchen!) I do! Think of the swank parties you could throw!
  20. Lisa Gray has a very nice article on this subject is today's Chron: "Abandoned house, abandoned hope in Meyerland" It mentions the forum. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headli...es/5298831.html
  21. True, but if we could just change one person's mind about bad home design, it's worth it.
  22. I worked there for 10 years. It's a great building in an easily accessible location. That green space atop the garage was underused -- but it was very pretty. Glad to hear they're doing something with it.
  23. I noticed on the way to work this morning that they are measuring the traffic counts on Bissonnet right in front Maryland Manor apartments.
