  1. Unless it's a date night, it's not easy to take the kids to a nicer place.. Plus the wife and I have been on a diet so it makes it difficult to eat out.. but either way, these are the places we hit often enough to make a list of, but maybe not 12 times a year: Berryhill Hickory Hollow Someburger Shade Glass Wall Tetototoehkawan on Airline.. (sp?) Oh Yeah: Dry Creek for breakfast.. mmm.. Gotta try still Stella Stola for date night, and Mam's for kids' night. Edit: Duh
  2. what is this thing?

  3. Sad.. hope they rebuild.. or at least re-locate in the area.. Midtown just wouldn't be the same without a Mai's.. How old was that building anyway.? Old wood I would suspect burns better than today's pressure and bug treated woods..
  4. Going to Textile next month.. Will report back but I'd expect it to be expensive.. Must drink less.. Heck.. Went to Mark's last night and it was 130 (+tip) a person..
  5. Spiffy.. I'll have to check it out.. I've been looking for new places to check out around the 'hood..
  6. Looks good.. Is it a "nicer" place? ie, glass wall, shade style? Or somewhere in the middle?
  7. That's a shame.. I wasn't really sure what market they were going for however.. Sandwiches, coffee, nick nacks, and meats and fish.. hmm.. Went there once for coffee.. was decent enough.. Went back another time to check out the meats.. WOW that was expensive.. we were entertaining for 6, and it would have been cheaper to head to Taste of Texas than buying and cooking at home..
  8. For some reason I stumbled on this thread and wondered whatever came of this property.. if it will become more townhomes or if it will be restored to somewhat "new" condition.. anyone know?
  9. The "Tolerance Bridge" ?! WTF is that?! And where are the pics?
  10. Really? Man, I gotta get out more.. They put it on the concrete out there? At least the Galleria/Mem Mall rinks don't have to compete with direct sunlight.. Plus.. I would venture to guess indoors it would never get more than 80 degrees.. I've had many a christmas day in shorts and t-shirt.. I guess I can "ice skate" in shorts and a t-shirt now too!
  11. hmm.. the Woods graduating class seems smaller than Awty's.. I'll have to put it on the list too as well.. Didn't know about it before.. Hopefully, as more kids of parents who care start attending the tax funded schools, maybe quality will increase.. Until then I'm not personally looking beyond public elementary school..
  12. Awty international school is fantastic.. It's grown the last couple of years.. but it goes from 1st through high school. My bro in law graduated from there a some years back. There is a French program as well as "American" program, and all students are required to graduate with an IB diploma. Not cheap, but definitely one of the best ones if you're not looking for a religious affiliated school.. They're on Post Oak, just north of I-10.. I think St Johns (?) is good too if you are looking for a religious school.. All boys, but St Agnes, all girls, across the street supposedly have some social interaction.. I don't really know that much about it first-hand tho.
  13. We're zoned to fields.. ugh.. my son will not be going to Fields. We're going to try for the Harvard magnet program, or River Oaks magnet.. if he doesn't get in either.. we'll suck it up and send him private and pay twice.
  14. Let's end for-profit trial lawyers! Maybe the rest will fall into place...
  15. Indeed, the windows are not floor to ceiling.. I guess I should have been more explicit.. they're more like.. "If you stand on a chair you might be able to see through them.. " From what I recall they were in the actual group cells.. but it has been a while since I was there so I may be a little hazy ..
  16. Yes.. some of the windows are indeed real.. and some are not.. the ones which are real do have bars in the inside of the window to keep obvious break-outs/ins.. I'd say about 50% of the windows are open. The cells there are primarily group style with a "pod" in the middle overlooking 2 or 3 large rooms (as I recall).. I couldn't guess how many groups of rooms are on each floor, but they each have at least 1 real window.. Cheers!
  17. I've always enjoyed Java Java.. tends to be busy on weekends.. I've had El Rey downtown for lunch and wasn't impressed.. But I hadn't had breakfast there, nor had the coffee.. so maybe it's better! What is that place on White Oak near Morrison/Beauchamp.? Do they have breakfast there?
  18. I'm guessing Red wasn't in attendance..
  19. wow.. the ballet must have some coin!.. Are they a non-profit who gets tax exemptions? If so that would at least save 40% off the bottom line..
  20. That place came with a warranty, right?
