There is truth to it.  It may not go down like that but the Tarkett redevelopment will be exciting, only so much can be said at this point.

you guys are close, think summer/hicks street improvements , oliver street extension?, feeder improvements?, studemont improvements?, signals gone, added?, etc.  

A proper indoor upscale mall (not an outlet mall) would see a lot of foot traffic and the area would support it IMO.

I live in the Cinco Ranch area.  I have driven this section 3 times since it opened.  Once to the outlet malls and twice as a route to North Texas, Dallas and Possum Kingdom.  That worked quite well allowing me to avoid all of 45 and the beltway south of Madsonville big time saver too.

Ok forgive me because I was born in 76 so I was truly a child of the 80's bad hair, clothes, everything. We lived off Reveille/35 just outside the loop very near Gulfgate mall. My world was pretty small then, so here is what I recall as cool in Houston at the time for me.

1. Astroworld - back in it's prime.

2. Gulfgate Mall - cool things. The bowling alley under the mall. The Vision Street Wear store. the theater with the pedestrian bridge over 610.

3. NASA - was a cool tour back then before they built SCH.

4. Stewart Beach in Galveston.

5. Putt Putt and Supertrack on I-45 south - arcade!

There are people that live their entire lives in Houston without ever even knowing where Katy is. Why should we name one of our roads after it?

I find this hard to believe. You would have to live under a rock or not speak the language.

I have lived in Houston, Pearland, or the Katy area my entire life. I currently live in the Katy area. I call I-10 just that I-10 (east or west)

The only names I think I use are "the Loop" for 610 and usually with a direction. And "the beltway" for belt-8. Also the Grand Parkway for 99.

I have never used Eastex or North freeway. And 99% of the time I say I-45 north or south instead of the Gulf freeway. The only time I hear the gulf freeway and Katy freeway used is for advertisment or address distinctions.

Thanks for picking out the stats for the rest of the city's schools, Highway6. As usual, we keep having to remind Katy that this isn't a Katycentric universe.

I don't see how charity and good will has anything to do with comic relief. I don't know where the middle of "nowwhere" is? But I go to Second Baptist church westside campus. It is between Fry and Barker Cypress on I-10. Monthly our class tries to find a mission to help out be it feeding the hungry, providing shoes for people around the world, toys for children, etc. you get the point. I help out in ways that I can.

I think there are better ways of improving the area where you live than to chatise those that are trying to serve those in need.

We will probably know the outcome after the first quarter. There hasn't really been any really close games and in every game of this series you could anticipate who was going to win after the first quarter.

we played pretty well but frankly, LA lost that game, they did not seem like the Lakers ive seen so much of this season.

It's because of the Rockets team defense. Thats five straight games holding thier opponents under 92 points. So yes LA lost the game because the rockets stopped them and scored more than them.

By the way, I live in Cinco Ranch and there is a Barnes & Nobles Bookstore 10 minutes from my house.

There is some light industrial to the east and north, but there are also a lot of trees, including a densely wooded tract just to the east. The neighborhoods across Orange are from the 70s but they don't seem all that rundown to me. I would in fact lean the other direction. Several other nearby houses just to the west are large, new, and on large lots. There are some pretty substantial mod-inspired houses just to the other side of that wooded tract, and I think the front yard is quite lovely. True, the railroad track is half a mile away, but that's true for all the houses in the area. True, there are some pretty squalid examples of rural blight to the north on Mykawa, but it certainly seems well buffered by all the trees and land. It's a working class neighborhood but I don't hear a lot about crime there.

Yes, there does seem to be one other house close by. There are also several outbuildings and sheds and what looks like a swimming pool. Those seem like good things to me. I used to drive by every day because it was on my way home and it never seemed like a bad, or even ugly, area. Quite the contrary.

I agree with pretty much everything you said here marmer, I used to drive this are pretty frequently. I will say though that I would be worried about potential development around these houses. I think it is prime land for someone to come in and throw up apartments especially just to the east. And that would be a disaster, I am afraid Pearland, alot of it, is falling prey to the new flight from southeast and south west Houston and it is not better for it.

As I stated earlier my mom bought my clothes 90% of the time from the Penny's catalog. I had a lot of bugle boy clothes.

That or I got my brother's hand-me-downs.

I do remember going into Gulfgate and buying some shorts and shoes from Vision Street wear. sort of skater clothes.

I suppose you also probably do not know about the light rail line that will run through the area, connecting Second Ward and Third Ward to downtown. Just think of all the brown people! They will no doubt inundate your neighborhood with poverty, crime, and other such terrible things that are intuitively correlated with melanin.

You should sell your home immediately and move to an insulated suburban enclave (or West U or Bellaire). I'm positive that you will find many like-minded NIMBY friends there. And then you will never have to worry about the dynamism of a growing city ever again.

I'm happy for Hawkins. He's an individual who wants a job. He got one, good for him. But on a business side, there's a reason no team wanted him.

About the Texans today, O-line was horrible, which made Scaub put up Carr like numbers. Flashes of 2005. Defense against the running games was awful too. I still am hoping for 9-10 wins. It's past time to draft a running back in the first round for God's sake. Bright note? The Colts are losing late in the night game and Jacksonville lost too. Bad news, Vince Young is hurt So the Titans might actually be better.
