    I wonder what the plan is for the blank canvas highway-facing side of the building. Another Big Tex sign?

    i have mentioned this before but my close friends dwayne, john and ron occupied the 2 rooftops apartments above Cutloose Hair which is next door to the Blue House back in the late 90s early 2000's and man that such a blast to hang there everyday up on the patio and watch the world of Montrose go by. fun times. 

    It’s going to smell like brown butter waffle cones 24/7.

    But wouldn’t lowering that section of 529 and the Spur be in the best interest of residents that live there? In other words, doesn’t sinking it reduce the noise and the eyesore of looking at a freeway?

  4. Once this hotel gets built out, how much longer do you think the dilapidated apartments on W. Main (other side of Mandell) will last? Specifically talking about the eyesore two doors down from 93 ‘Til at 1609 W. Main (pictured below).  I also just drove by the apartment complex across the street at 1612 W. Main and the below-grade parking garage was completely flooded after today’s storm.

    Stanford is already an excellent bike route from Woodrow St up to Allen Pkwy. Dedicated bike lane would make it even better.

    How old are these block books/when were they printed? I have one for my house and the pages look just as ancient.

    Not saying I like the building, and of course Montrose overall is a good example of light, moderately walkable urbanism. But Montrose Boulevard itself is a stroady, car-centric mess, and there are a lot of issues with it that should probably take priority over aesthetic preciousness.

    Give me Montrose Blvd over Kirby Drive any day of the week.

There's really nothing special about how Houston builds other than it combines all forms of residential as one group and commercial as another with no sub groups like in traditional zoning. Houston let's the market and the developer determine what get's built and it's actually created neighborhoods that make more sense and are more organic than over regulated neighborhoods in other cities. 

    I do think it’ll look better when they actually finish construction, fix the sidewalks, hopefully plant some trees, etc.
