  1. HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A minor accident led to a chase and a second wreck in southwest Houston.

According to officials, two cars were involved in a minor crash near West Bellfort and South Post Oak. One of the cars apparently didn't stop and the other driver pursued him. A METRO bus was sideswiped during the chase. No one on the bus was hurt.

Eyewitnesses reported the two cars involved in the chase were shooting at each other. Police have not confirmed that at this time.

That's about the worst news report I've ever read. Anyone hear anything else?

  2. There were about 10 HPD cruisers, 2 ambulances and a firetruck on W. Bellfort just east of S. Post Oak at about 7:00pm last night

There was a Black 4 door F-250 with the windows busted out, a stopped metro bus and tons of cops keeping people out of the parking lot by the dialysis place. There appeared to be atleast a dozen little evidence cards set up throughout the parking lot.

I haven't seen anything on the news or the interwebs.

    Anyone else know anything?

  3. As others have said, if you are concerned about crime, you are looking in the wrong area.

I agree with the notion that you should rent first so you can better learn where in the city you want to live.

If you are dead set on buying, I would look into Westwood (77025) and Post Oak Manor (77035). They are a 4-5 mile straight shot up Main St. from Rice.

It's not rare to pick up a house ~$140,000 in those 2 neighborhoods.

  4. Good to hear/see! The Tall Timbers section, in my opinion, is one of the coolest places to have a modern house just because of the stately Georgian and French variety that typifies the River Oaks home. It's a nice contrast, and from what can be seen looks like it will be a neat project.

I find it a little bit humorous that a stucco mcmansion going up amongst ranchers, bungalows etc. is offending to many, while a mostly monolithic (appearing in this case) monstrosity is a "nice contrast" to the dominant surrounding architecture.

ps. I'm just playing devil's advocate, as I prefer the monolith.

  5. It was the August 2007 Mod of the Month at 4987 Dumfries in Meyerland, by architect William F. Wortham, that suffered the above mentioned desecration.

I have not heard about any changes at 3611 North Braeswood.

I'm very familiar with the investor who bought 4987 Dumfries.

I'm guessing it will be back on the market soon.

  6. Current shots:

I drove by about two weeks ago and snapped this:

    This is from Sunday afternoon:

Notice that there are new stacks of lumber in the front yard and no sign of a bulldozer? Is this an extreme rennovation or demolition on the cheap?

Looks like a remodel. Those are concrete pilings for foundation repair in the yard.

  7. I swear this one boggles my mind. According to the MLS, this "lot" was the 5th most expensive "lot" purchase in MLS area 17 as far back as the MLS keeps track.

Granted, some "lots" are listed as houses when they sell, but this is ridiculous. This sale puts this property (in braeswood) on par with Shady Side, West U, Southampton.

Even though the land is half an acre, they grossly overpaid in my opinion.

    I'm perplexed.
