  1. Barcadia is closed, seems like sometime around Monday the 9th(?) perhaps? Enjoyed their cheap food and beer specials but you could see the writing on the wall recently.
  2. I'm curious to see how a place like this does in that area. I looked at the site, and while it looks good and well....I don't see it flying there. IMHO
  3. Thanks so much! great pictures!
  4. Actually, they hadn't "sold out"...they have some menu items unavailable, as they aren't getting all of their needed supplies yet. The were out of any sort of tempura, etc.. Went last weekend, and had a similar experience to Segovia... Quite slow, and It seemed one guy was training everyone...cooks, waitstaff...and was short handed. Or food was quite good (Tuna dish / Bul Golgi)..but varying value. The Tuna was fantastic, and was a great portion with it's price. The beef was almost cold (waiting for the other order to come up) but very good as well. Although the portion was waaay small for the price. I assume these are normal issues that get ironed out within the first month or so...but so far, it has potential.
  5. It was a form type respones, but I emailed back about the 'meeting' and received a true response. Luck met with a few different fans yesterday and the dicussions went along these lines: -politics wasn't as large of a contributer as sponsorship pressure...(Univision, Taq.Arandas being the only two known by me. But I'm sure there was political involvement WITH those sponsors)...especially Univision) -Sponsorship conversations were focusing more on the name than what the sponsorship would do for the company -Colors stay...not so sure if the logo will stay. -not gonna be a spanish name..ie Gato's or Toro's -If it is LoneStar, it won't have and (S) after it. -He doesn't like the change anymore than we do. He wanted to give it a year but as time went on it became clear that it was going to be an issue the entire season -He's taking his fill of Guinness these days
  6. Here is the main man, Oliver Luck. oluck@ houston1836.com The decision is being pushed by a few houston gvmt officals and sponsors. The ownership group AEG will be making the decision sylvia_garcia@pct2.co.harris.tx.us (Sylvia Garcia) districth@cityofhouston.net (Adrian Garcia)
  7. from the whoopin's dished out by our parents when they found out?....yes.
  8. You could see. I can't even fathom it having such a thing these days. Just think how tall that "fence" would have to be to fully protect a four story screen. Also, the fence that was there didn't completely around it. It was similar to a large aluminum boundry that auto 'junk yards' have.
  9. Hey, the Capitan looks great! I grew up in Pasadena and the old theater looked pretty bad at some points. The city bought the whole strip there and made the entire thing into some type of 'city services' building as well as redoing the front of the Capitan. They did that around '95 iirc, and at my age then didn't care much about it. But I'm pretty proud of 'em for doing it now that I appreicate these type things. Pasadena did that with a few old buildings...why, I have no idea, but like I said I really appreciate it now. Wish they could have gone over to South Houston and saved the BEST building as well. The other theater in 'old downtown' Pasadena IS the gunrange on Shaw. The range has been there as long as I remember, and I used to do odd jobs there when I was young (~14 or so, I was born in '75) ..oh, and don't forget the triple-X drive in on Red Bluff! It was a favorite bicycle destination for the older kids to sneak too when I was waaay young.
  10. New-ish guy here, first post and all. Been reading/following this forum for about a year now, great place. Anyway, not sure if anyone mentioned this yet but I was browsing through the demolition photos on www.oldastroworld.com. Anyone find it really creepy that they've left the tall raggedy ghosts up from fright-fest on the etrance? Gives me the heeby-jeeby's!
