I think where they planted the grass is going to be a pocket park. Where the sign is advertising, they probably want to sell that parking lot and get some more funds to pay for all these years of renovations.
The parking lot portion of the block is under different ownership.

Amegy owned it as of a few years ago.

My sources say the Holiday Inn is going to become a Marriott. Same developer as the Savoy project.
-
If I'm not mistaken, there is a circa 2007-8 thread about a Hilton Garden Inn proposed for the vacant half block next to the Wedge Tower garage.

I heard something about a Turkish company and a boutique hotel. That's all I've got.

According to next week's planning commission agenda, Alliance (Broadstone) is replatting the neighboring Block 334--Main, Fannin, Leeland, Bell.
I heard a rumor that this block would be non-highrise apartments. Sounds like the rumor is accurate.

Looks like my sources may be right...http://swamplot.com/airing-out-at-least-the-old-savoy-downtown/2013-05-16/#more-62044

I hope so. Haven't heard anything though.
Can you imagine if the Savoy and Central Square both changed hands and somebody did something with them. Add in the new Skyhouse and the recent renovation of the Houston House and you'd have some real change in S. downtown.
Agree. Along those lines, I also heard an unsubstantiated rumor of another residential project going up on the block immediately north of Skyhouse.

I hear that the Savoy is in contract. Anyone know anything further?

Completely serious. I believe the land has already changed hands.

My sources say it will be highrise residential.

So what's changed with regard to parking?
I believe parking was free on weekdays after 6:30 p.m. and all day Saturday at that time.

Has downtown been made exempt from the City's parking requirements?
Yes.

Rumour has it that Tilman is planning a multiplex across those four adjacent blocks that will rival his downtown aquarium project. Apparantly Greyhound's parent company has been under pressure from the DHS to move. I guess he wants to collect the whole set.
Source?

I noticed today that Downtown Bodyshop at Travis and Webster is closed, with signs indicating that they have moved. The above, coupled with the County Attorney's unusual lawsuit against the gas station next to the Greyhound Station and the recent rendering of Discovery Green style development of the Superblock has me wondering if something may be in the works for Downtown and Midtown's biggest problem area. Obviously anything big would need to start with moving Greyhound, but it sure seems like something could be happening based on the above.

I've been watching this and...is that the new color, or just a primer base?
New color.

Problem is.. Grayhound is a private entity. Greyhound relocation isn't up to the City, isn't up to the midtown mgmt district, and isn't up to all their neighbors that don't want them there.
If the city was inclined to do so, it could make life difficult for Greyhound by altering the traffic flow in the blocks surrounding the station. The train already makes access less than ideal, however, playing games with no left turns and one-ways could probably make the site unsuitable for continuing operation as a bus station. That's what I would do.

Can we please move the Greyhound station now?

Was this building ever considered for residential conversion? It seems the narrow floorplates and operable windows would have made it a good apartment/condo tower (especially if there was attached parking).
I believe the vast majority of the building had low ceilings.

eh, my guess is nothing for a long while. But maybe I'm just being a pessimist.
If you click on the Central Square flyer it says "one of the eye sores in this location has been the Grey Hound Bus Station, which has just gone up for sale as they are relocating." Can anyone confirm this to be true?

I think the new incarnation of Market Square Park is going to be a huge success. It feels like a miniature Discovery Green. Has anyone else noticed how much larger the park seems post-renovation?
-
Does anyone know if the 806 Main hotel conversion is underway?
I never realized that the Melrose was vacant. How long has it been empty?
Judging by the condition of the street level exterior, I would guess since the 1980's.

I saw three or four people walking around the upper levels of the parking structure portion of the building today. They looked to be of the worker persuasion as opposed to the trespasser persuasion. Let's hope this is a sign that this project is coming back to life.

Yeah, but mostly lousy chains. Yatra just failed next door as well.
I'm not surprised that Yatra failed. Part of the their business model involved not including rice with any of their entrees, and then charging extra for it. That sort of thing doesn't fly in this town. I think Ziggy's will do well. Lawyers and Energy Execs who wouldn't eat at the Nestle Toll House shop will eat Ziggy's.
800 Bell St. (Former Exxon Building) Conversion to Residential
in Downtown

This is not true. I'm familiar with the ownership of three of the parking lot blocks surrounding 800 Bell. They are very sophisticated long term investors from NYC. They will go vertical at some point, but are happy to hold as long as it takes for the right deal.
