  1. not surprised....Chronicle is located downtown but avoids the wards unless a shooting happens..lol
  2. companies are paying tolls for people to work, people make more money each day, etc.....they can afford tolls so it'll fill up
  3. they've cut back in coverage also...especially in sports as they've ignored local colleges and focus too much on UT and A&M
  4. I drove 99 Southbound today and I was at 1-10 from my spot in Waller County (290 area near Hempstead) in 28 minutes
  5. Rice football is a niche sport over there...they rarely support their own
  6. its odd the randalls off Kirkwood/Wilcrest is still there and that area has seen its best days years ago
  7. Lanier, Bob McNair, a bunch of other River Oaks types were all in it together....Lanier was over the highway commission and it was him or someone close to him who developed Cinco Ranch with the road coming through in due time to profit off of it you look back at that time..there wasn't much in Katy to develop or even waste time developing then as even Highway 6 was way out in the boonies...why not funnel more development into Houston then if you had interests there? That's why monorail was killed...Lanier
  8. its free so that's why the big rush...it may change on Jan. 31 when tolls come into play but considering how slow the tollways run in Houston at Rush Hour...it may never be fast until the night hour
  9. odd there's a Taco bell within 3 miles either way (Becker and Spring Cypress) along with a Jack-In-The-Box that just opened a few years ago on Spring Cypress..same with Whataburger Olive Garden will clean house out there....
  10. There was a lot out there then...but they kept on flying down the street when the area darkened up only to repeat the same thing down Bellfort, Almeda Genoa, etc. to now Pearland
  11. Fondren and West Airport had one also....good icees..lol
  12. my brothers went there.... HISD is complaining about school costs per student...why not combine them with a low enrollment HISD school and you can justify the cost per student?
  13. In that elementary school near the Food-a-rama in the strip center....that used to be a gun shop, post oak trophies was over there also Think a chinese restaurant was on stella link also that looked like a chinese village as there was one on West Airport and Hiram Clarke Wasn't jack-in-the-box on chimney rock and west bellfort? The old sign is still there Also, a chinese restaurant was across the street in a office building on chimney rock At main and post oak was a mcdonald's, pizza hut and mobil gas station
  14. Standardized testing strikes again... I have several friends who graduated from Forest Brook and Smiley and are successful in life as I hate to see this.....when the shift towards testing popped up in the school system it has become deadly...Humble ISD has atttracted alot of the alumni of NFISD who could've sent kids there and there isn't enough diversity to boost scores across the board. If they close, will HISD absorb their facilities or they'll shift them to Kashmere? But NFISD used to be predominately white at one time.....another district that has fallen victim of white flight inside the Beltway
  15. because its not on the bus line and the average joe who knows the Willowbrook system will go there instead....We had that on the southside in the 90s named Meyer Park 16....was the hottest concept in the 90s but the theater went down the tubes as newer ones started piling up making Meyer Park obsolete But then, we had Astroworld also as an outlet....Willowbrook is the Northside Astroworld outlet... Remember also, when AMC Willowbrook opened also Magic Johnson (a nice theater in my opinion) was in Northline.
  16. Real easy problem.....name another theater to the east of the area? Also, throw in the bus line and the explosion of people all up and down 249 plus improved roads which lead right there, Willowbrook is the social outlet for that area as what else is there to do? I used to live right behind the mall..I had no problem there but lack of zoning, congestion, etc. made me think this day was coming Silverado costs money so they won't attract tons of youth....
  17. They had several in South park also....even one that has a street named after it....
  18. tell me what I'm missing in Reliant or Toyota again? Playoffs? Championship Games? At least we had championship quality teams in the dome and reliant
  19. It depends on where you came from....If you were used to the area nothing was wrong with Jones but the folks who didn't come from the area put up the fuss. I know alot of folks who enjoyed both sides....the ones who refused to assimilate into Jones caused the problems. I just think they can put money into where they're at now and use that land for something worthwhile...
  20. I'm talking about amenities...AAC has more to offer behind the scenes than Toyota.... As for Reliant....bland...if you don't put 40,000 in there the game is dead. The Dome in its glory days had mystique.
  21. Again, most of those restaurants are niche....Who serves fresh seafood in a fish market setting out here?
  22. It'll still be better than Reliant...I've been all over Reliant from floor 1 to floor 7 and up and down the Texans' offices...nothing stands out and I'm not the only person who has said that. In high school, you looked forward to going and playing in the dome, you can't even get into reliant as a high school team unless it's a special occassion. I've been all over the Superdome also....I like the mystique about it...hate the upper deck but something about it is cool...
  23. HISD students come from all over so right now it may benefit some but in 3 years there may be an influx of applicants from the SW Side... I like the mission of the school as I've had 5 cousins graduate from there but they never complained about mixing in with the folks when it was Jones.....I just think HISD does better using that money for something else as they have a dedicated school already instead of putting it on pricey real estate that could be used for something else. What happens to the school they took over? More dead real estate?
  24. Take the roof away from Reliant and what do you have? It's a bland stadium
  25. Technically, is there a need for Carnegie? I live near that area and its alright a hassle to drive now...they have more space on Scott Street
