  1. Thank you! I'm not a big fan of ever expanding sprawl, but please, that area of the city has been heavily developed since the early 1960s!!

I'm with you and don't like the sprawl happening out in the Katy area, etc. BUT, like you said, if people have a problem with "sprawl" this area, maybe they should've spoken up in the early 50s when neighborhoods were being developed. Memorial Bend, for example, is 50 years old ( Memorial Bend Development ). This area is anything but new - it is well-established and just as old as Meyerland, Braes Heights, Afton Oaks, Ayrshire, Tanglewood, etc. Warrenton and Whispering Oaks (SE corner of Gessner and Memorial Drive) were being built in 1952, three years before Meyerland. 2. Hey texasdago, I think you might have read an old article about that?  The 9-story prof building III has already been built.  It sits at 923 Gessner.  The old Oshman's lot is 975 Gessner, according to Metro National's website.

However, I'd love to know where you heard about Central Market going in T&C?  That is literally right across the street from me and I'd be just tickled to death if it went in there!!!!!  :D

Parrothead... the article I came across seemed pretty recent. I'll see if I can track it down. BTW - I noticed the link on the bottom of your page. Do you now live in Memorial Bend? The web page you've linked is my page :)

  3. kzseattle, isn't that the truth! UGH!  That place is HORRIBLE!!!!!!  It's so tacky! On a more nostalgic note, I remember when that used to be Luke's, they had the best bacon cheeseburger around at 3AM....how I loved Luke's!!!!!

Well, it sounds like that spot on the corner of Gessner and I-10 will become a 9-story professional bldg. I hope I'm wrong. The latest I heard was that Central Market might end up in the new Town & Country. Wishful thinking...?

  4. I don't think something like that would work well here in the states, at least not until there are more people there.

Well, it works in other cities in the U.S. so I can't see why it wouldn't work here.

  5. About 6 months ago, I heard a rumor about Central Market. The rumormill said that Oshman's (on the corner of Gessner and I-10) was going to move into the old Service Merchandise store (about 1/2 mile west) and Central Market was going to take over the Oshman's location.

Well, for the past 6 months, it's been mostly a rumor but we've been watching with interest as the old Service Merchandise store got a facelift. Sure enough, a banner was just hung on the facade announcing that the store would be an Oshman's.

So... one down, one to go? Personally, I'm thrilled about having a Central Market nearby if the rest of the rumor is true.
