  1. A new development at Jackson and Stuart (map) in S Midtown next to Elizabeth Baldwin Park called Jackson Villas at Stuart broke ground recently. The sign says from the mid-300's. http://static.flickr.com/19/106394946_cd8a973669.jpg
  2. Went to Dolce Vita last night and loooooved the pizza. I got the proschuitto pizza and it was magnificent. The prices were very reasonable. $4 appetizer (mushrooms in some type of cheese) 2 $7 glasses of nice wine $14 great specialty pizza that filled 2 of us up (guessing 14") I also found the ambiance and the service to be quite enjoyable. I'll be back for sure.
  3. Well we stopped by on Saturday and had a great time. Nice selection of beers on tap, friendly staff, solid jukebox selections, and an all around good vibe. The crowd was nice mix of guys, gals, and the young and old. Welcome to the hood, we're glad to have you as the closest bar to our crib!
  4. last i heard was 30-40%, but i can't verify that at all.
  5. Most of what I've heard is from a pal of mine in Dallas who owns a record label. Apparently, most of his thoughts are around the closure of music venues and perceived increases in crime. I spent quite a bit of time down there in 2000 - I actually lived in the Magnolia Hotel (old Mobile building on Commerce) for 6 months and would walk to Deep Ellum a couple of times a week. I hope it isn't going downhill because I had a lot of fun down there, just what I've heard. Here is a link that seems to summarize the subject.
  6. yeah, last I heard Deep Ellum went downhill quick. I dig this hood, see concerts and board the dogs there. seems promising with so many vacant lots.
  7. dup http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...?showtopic=4803 oops! Merged topics - thanks, bwj. dbigtex56
  8. it is aboot time, eh?! i'll try and stop by this weekend. welcome to the 'hood.
  9. hmmm... If you are referring to the townhomes on the NW side of La Branch and Elgin, they are more around $500k, which is definitely steep. I think they were banking on the Collective driving up prices, and essentially put the cart before the horse. Just south on La Branch are some new Tricon homes going for around $350k, with 2 already sold, one with a sale pending. Last I heard there are quite a number of folks interested and signing up to get into The Collective. They are working to change the designs, reducing the number of units, probably to make them a bit bigger. That should help justify the price. As far as the people walking around, I'd say there are all kinds of folks walking the sidewalks during the day. Tons of people, like myself, hit the pavement daily with the dogs. There are actually a lot of students walking to ACC, as well. I'm still positive on this side of Midtown (and love living there).
  10. haha - my wife jokes at their "coming soon" sign every time we pass and says "coming later".
  11. A lot of these demo projects have some gems (bricks, weathered signs, etc) laying around before they haul everything off.
  12. How right you are about the quality of Spec's produce! They really do have some amazing food there along with their selection of libations.
  13. So, on Saturday midnight hit and I'm craving pizza like mad. I call around trying to order one and none of the usual suspects including Late Nite Pie will answer their phone. Anyone know of a place that will deliver a pie past the midnight hour?
  14. I hear there are some design tweaks going on. Retail will likely be on the La Branch side, art on the park side. Construction to begin when approx 60% sold, hoping to be in the next couple of months.
  15. ah - I thought that was a private party so didn't even think about popping in. As I remember, I assumed this b/c their sign wasn't lit. Nevertheless, hopefully they'll be open some night this week so I can pop in.
