  1. Here’s a view from Trebly park. The design fits in nicely with the other residential in the area. While 800 Bell was built in the 60’s it reminds me of some of the high-rise residential buildings in Vancouver.
  2. Totally see that for conference attendees; but I was speaking to transplants who have no natural affinity to frequent Astros games. Not sure if the number of games that coincide with out of town conference attendees from urban walkable areas who want to attend Astros games is worth the investment.
  3. I think the feeling of safety and familiarity has a lot to do with the level of pre/post game activity around MMP. From my observation, people who frequent Astros games are native Houstonians, corporate types and suburbanites—folks who generally aren’t comfortable bar hopping downtown. I live inside the loop and go out fairly regularly, but I can honestly say, bar hopping at City Center or any of the other suburban “town centers” feels a lot safer and the vibe of these places feels more “familiar” to me as someone who grew up here, if that makes sense. Honestly, I’m also not sure how many transplants from NYC, Chicago, Boston, etc. are frequenting Astros games. Development around the park just may not be seen by the Astros as a good investment given the makeup of fans who frequent the games.
  4. I don't disagree that the site may be hard to develop. However, here is some additional context on why homeless people sleep in the area--the Episcopal Diocese's Beacon Center is located there. This is where downtown's homeless population can go for daily hot meals, showers, laundry and social and mental health services. And to your point, there are currently business and residences in the area, so development in the area does occur. I haven't been in a while, but the underground food hall seemed to be doing ok.
  5. Is this common? Our niece and several of her friends were affected. They were offered $500/week or two months free rent and are being housed if needed in the UH Hilton.
  6. I agree. The height complements the other buildings (Hilton, Marriott Marquis, Hess, One Park Place) framing the park. It also “feels” quite tall and substantial when approaching Discovery Green by both car and on foot.
  7. The Beacon at the Episcopal Diocese downtown provides hot showers daily. If a person is mentally they may not know or have the capacity to locate the center; but many homeless residents shower there each day.
  8. I guess older is relative, .. My husband and I are in our early 50’s and were by far some of the older ones in Frank’s around 8:30 pm last Saturday. The crowd was a mix of ages though. I do notice a lot of younger people riding the scooters around DT now.
  9. Mods can you please remove my post? I see it's being covered extensively elsewhere. According to Walking Houston, new 33 storey co-living space called X Houston is scheduled to deliver in the Museum District in 2024. Here are renderings from the developer on Walking Houston’s Instagram.
  10. The building feels uniquely 'Houston'...not pretentious or over the top, but comfortable in its form and unique palette.
  11. Really nice crowd Sunday. Great complement to Discovery Green and Tout Suite was actually a lot larger that I thought with walk-up, outdoor and indoor seating. IMG_3407.heic
  12. And? It was recent news to me and others who don’t frequent the site as much as you. Love your posts but leave the moderation to the mods.
  13. From Walking Houston's Instagram: "Oxberry Group is planning another mixed-use development in the heart of Houston. Their latest project known as the Canopy on Washington will include 27,000 SF of retail and office space. According to a site plan, PrimeWay Federal Credit Union has already signed on as a tenant. The project is spread across two buildings, each two levels tall and connected by a skybridge. A welcomed design for Houston, the project fronts Washington Avenue and includes parking in the rear. Located at 3800 Washington Avenue, the development is expected to deliver in Q3 2023 according to a marketing brochure."
  14. On a grand scale, yes. But Central Park is so large that once inside, the structures are not as "seen/felt". DG is a lot smaller and the buildings have a closer-in feel and are visible regardless of what area of the park you're in.
  15. Source? I looked up Colony Ridge. and maybe I missed something, but I see no mention of it being controversial. Just a website.
  16. Was at an event there recently and was given a tour as well. The space is very-well laid out and reminds me of where my kids work in the Bay Area and NYC.
  17. From: https://www.houstontx.gov/planning/MoreSpace-MainStreet.html The City is extending the program until March 2023 and is expanding it to include more businesses. Not sure why it’s temporary, but it’s a good start. According to the link, four businesses on Main currently participate.
  18. It's been a while since these were posted...From Midway's project brochure: https://global-uploads.webflow.com/60fabed9899a525885269ae4/61bbd0ed437d6ee171337f76_210930-East-River-Retail-Brochure.pdf
