I gotta admit, I walked the park (excluding lost lake area) to over off Sabine on Sunday Afternoon and it was a gorgeous day. I saw quite a few people out enjoying the park and walking the trails. I walked at least 3 miles one way and 3 miles back and even went in the skate park area and conversed with a few people there in friendly conversation. It felt like a sense of place. I even took some photo shots with my crappy camera phone, but the photos above put mine to shame. I thought about some of the things that some posters said on here and I willingly admit that maybe I'm trained to think that water is supposed to be a certain way. Houston looked breathtakingly gorgeous. From the way the afternoon sun hit the skyline, the pedestrian bridges, blue skies, and the bayou. Although the bayou still reminded me of the chocolate river from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory , I have to say that some of the comments here has shifted my mind to be more flexible to appreciate and find the beauty in the bayou for what it is.

You can attack my viewpoint all you want. For example, Ladybird Lake in Austin has a very picturesque setting and the water is blue. That's not to say this Brae's Bayou isn't very picturesque as well and they are doing an excellent job on the park, but that doesn't change the fact that I'd take bluer water over brown. It's just hard to believe that there's nothing that can be done.

I'm a little late replying to this, but, This is to be a main attraction built around nasty- looking water? I always believed that something could be done to reduce the appearance of the brown a little bit. Look at what they have done with Bray's bayou. They cemented the bottom of it and while it doesn't necessarily change the color of the water, it makes it look just a little bit more transparent where it changes with the color of the sky and environs more. This is going to be a main attraction to the city. While I know we shouldn't necessarily care what visitors think, I just don't want our attraction being associated with muddy, poopy, and nasty. I mean the city is spending millions on this park, why not try to put on its best face?

Well if this does end up coming to fruition, I will have no choice but to tip my hat off and congratulate Dallas as the new tallest city in Texas.

Monarch!!! you had to say all of that? Just for your only point (which is moot btw) to be that you're just mad that there's going to be a 2nd holel in NOLA? You could've said that in three sentences. -

Now if we could just get rid of some of those ugly power lines, Houston would actually be pretty decent looking.- 149 replies

That's funny. Reading these posts are a complete surprise to me. The last few times I've gone downtown on a Friday or Saturday night (a night where I'd expect the most attendance), it's been dead as a doorknob. I smh in disbelief each time over how downtown, although is shaping up with new amenitites and urban structures like Green Street, it's a mere shadow of its former self of the Main Street activity from the mid 00's.

I'm with citykid09 on this one. I'm a little iffy about all the redevelopment will going as planned now that the ownership is changing hands. Oh well, can only sit back and hope for the best. -

Can they just hurry up and get started on the damn thing before they decide to chop off any more floors? Embassy Suites downtown all over again. -
katy freeway from downtown to katy tx is definitely the nicest stretch of freeway with the arches over 59 a close second.

I wouldn't say all this. Isn't it in Houston's past to announce projects that take forever to get built, then either scaled back or not built at all? BTW. I'm glad things are so obvious to you. OK, i'm cool with being the dumb guy who comes on this forum for entertainment & leisure, not as a professional.

Yeah idk what's with all the "One" namepicks for all the towers. One park pl, One Market Square, etc. Starting to sound a little cheesy to me.

I thought this was supposed to be a pedestrian development. Drove by a few weeks ago and was disappointed on how far set back the development is from the sidewalk.

Would be nice, but seeing since this is Houston, we're more than likely going to be stuck with the original "box" they presented us with.- 1,170 replies

I guess I've learned t not get too excited about these type of developments anymore. It seems a little overambitious and something that will probably take a very long time to come to fruition.

I've driven by that site several times in the last year and 1/2 and don't recall seeing the glass elevators there. I remember the stairs being constructed but not the elevators. Not disputing what you're saying, I just don't remember seeing it.

I drove by the site the other day and noticed that elevators had been installed where the staircase is to the lightrail line. I was thinking that "something" may be coming, maybe not on the magnitude of the original hardy Rail Yard plan but something big is coming that they haven't really revealed to us.

I too hope that by changing the design, they do something more interesting with the lighting than what's currently on top of there now.

I'm no construction worker or engineer, but the space is so small that it would bump up against the ES building during the groundbreaking process alone. The Astoria situation is a little bit different, it isn't literally 10 feet away from the other development. -

They so need rail or some kind of trolley street car system in this entire area from Memorial City Mall to beltway 8. They are really missing a great opportunity here.- 959 replies

I was just at the ES site and the remaining parking lot space behind the hotel is very small. To hold hope that something other than a patch of grass or a flowerbed could be put in there is wishful thinking at best. Sorry ES won this round. -
