  1. O.K. have it your way. Builders build the opposite of what people want. All those cars in the parking lot are just figments of my imagination. And the dilapidated abandoned buildings built up to the pedestrian friendly sidewalks of EADO are just filled to capacity with happy invisible shoppers.
  2. Sorry, I meant to say 'webtard'. I corrected it. Thank you. BTW, individual stuff going up in midtown and downtown apparently doesn't count. If one's passion is Houston bashing, it doesn't further one's argument to acknowledge areas that are already urban and adding more urban cohesion. No, it's much better crying about faux urban projects going up in suburbs 12 miles west of downtown that were never high density urban cores to begin with and compare them with urban megalopolises built on the east coast in the 19th century. Here. Check out this. http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2014/09/mid-main-mixed-use-development-announces-groundbreaking-ceremony-date/ Maybe it will make you feel a little better. After this is built, Houston will look like New York in no time.
  3. 20 stories sounds plenty tall for that section of downtown. This seems like it would be a terrible place for a low or mid rise. 2 sides of the building wouldn't have a view of anything except freeway ramps. However, twin 20 story buildings in that spot could make quite an impact and could have the best view of downtown in the entire city. It would be like the view from UH Stadium, only up close and personal.
  4. I like Skyhouses just fine. But I think two are enough for downtown.
  5. I work in downtown dallas, less than 2 blocks away from farmers market. Uptown dallas is booming and has several scattered cranes building a few 20 something story buildings. I see nothing of interest currently going on in downtown. Farmers market area has potential, but currently it is quiet and lifeless (at least on the weekdays). The buildings in the farmers market area are seriously outdated and not in a good way. They look neglected. The residential buildings in farmers market look like suburban style townhomes. If they fill in the farmers market area with more of those it could make a nice inner city neighboorhood one day. But the truth is farmers market area does not have any of the classic signs that it is 'booming' at this time. Once you go south of Commerce St. it is dead. No cranes. No people. No Boom. Quit trying to make dallas out to be more than it is. We all know what it is.
  6. It wasn't an accident. I deliberately made the Chevron tower resemble it's logo. It's just for fun. But maybe it will inspire someone at Chevron to do something more interesting with their billion dollar tower while they have the chance.
  7. I created for myself to get an idea of what downtown would look like after all the new proposed towers are built. I thought it might entertain a few others at this website so I posted it on the 'skyline update' thread. Obviously I took liberties with Chevron Tower. It sounds like the final design may still be up in the air. Who knows, maybe the final design of the tower will be inspired by their own logo.
  8. I can't speak for how it will look in the future, but it's pretty ugly and forgettable right now. ZERO cranes. Some low rise 2 or 3 story suburban style apartments mixed into a dilapidated abandoned part of downtown. I never see anybody walking around during the weekdays.
  9. WOW!!!! 3 new buildings in downtown dallas!!!! 18, 5 and 4 stories tall AND in the rest of the city 12 others between 5-24 floors and maybe even including the goliath 33-story Blue Seal soon? Man. Why can't Houston ever build anything or think BIG?!?! God damn it!! I know I speak for everyone in Houston when I say we are sooooooooooo jellous of all the construction up there. We don't got nothing. Congratulations dallas for your wonderful majestic feat. I think you can see Downtown dallas from El Paso now!!! y'all should go to the New York and Chicago websites and tell them that dallas is going to be bigger and better than they are pretty soon and that they better watch out because dallas is architecturally more significant since more big buildings are being built in dallas than up there in those rust belts. Keep us posted so that we know what it's like to live in the big city where big pretty buildings are being built. Houston is lucky if they just update the local Dairy Queen.
  10. Since it will only take 30 minutes to get to College Station, it will turn A&M into another commuter school for Houston.
  11. Another reason I love this idea is that IF they can make the Astrodome Indoor Park work, we would have a plan of what to do with NRG Stadium and Minute Maid Park when they become obsolete. Imagine another indoor park with a retractable roof in downtown. East downtown would have the coolest neighborhood park in Texas. Our convention district would rule the planet.
  12. The world's largest indoor park = instant tourist attraction. I see this starting out modest and growing into a real treasure, like Moody Gardens. Yes. People pay to get into Moody Gardens. At first it may be nothing more than trees, grass and hedges inside a preserved monument to mid-century architecture. That itself would be a reason for me to pay to see it on a regular basis. But adding in permanent and temporary attractions will bring in the tourists. How many outdoor events are held in Houston year round that would be more enjoyable in a weatherproof, bug proof, perfect climate, historically relevant location with easy parking? Art festivals? Concerts? Conventions? I love this idea because it could be used by an endless variety of venues. This could be the coolest park in America.
  13. This is not the time to go cheap. Houston is 'economical' enough. Let us have ONE nice thing.
  14. Money is no object. We have the strongest economy in America. The 1% can pick up the tab. Greedy bastards! About time they built me a Texas sized indoor park so I can run around in the grass barefoot and not get chigger bites or heat stroke. Just kidding - I'm sure they'll work something out. http://www.chron.com/houston/article/Newest-Dome-proposal-to-be-announced-this-5712980.php
  15. World's largest indoor park. Trees, shrubs, grass and green space under a glass roof. Always 72 degrees. No mosquitos. Love it. Love everything about it.
