I don't think so, they are still there.
-
Beautiful pictures by the way, thanks for sharing!

I assume, in this case, those areas are only going to be sub-terrain development, meaning they are outside the perimeter of the tower going up but are within the tunnel area being developed. So they can fill in the void rather easily once they are removed.

I suppose if you're looking for grandeur, the museum could have been incorporated into a new high rise tower, say have the first 2 or 3 floors dedicated to the museum, or reverse that, dedicate the top 2 or 3 floors.
Besides that, it's a museum about Houston's history, I don't think you need a lot of floor space to showcase it.

Sounds great! So I assume this is going to be an ongoing thing each weekend.
-
Any reason why there are closing it this weekend?

Thanks to everyone for the great pictures! That pic showing the corner of Greenstreet looks great, I can't imagine how better it will look with the hotel going up soon.

Something fishy going on here. I have a feeling there is a major issue...
Like what exactly are you thinking? Structural damage? Financial?

The scene is around 55-60 minutes into the movie. It approaches downtown from the south, going along I-45. Great scene, and once again the federal building appears as not being finished on the left. It's been in brochures and in many other pictures/images showing it in it's current state. Also, a highrise tower would look good where the Days Inn is at. Just an observation.

I'm not a fan of this tower, I actually hate it a lot and voted that way, but I sympathize with you. The only way I could see the design being left alone is if a new tenant leases a majority of the space and they want to move in right away (as soon as Exxon leaves). I think that's your best bet for canceling the renovation plans, and I don't think that's likely.
Like I said before, when Exxon announced that they were leaving the tower completely, that sealed the fate of the tower's current facade. Kind of like what the Astros did to the Astrodome, Exxon did it to this building. To think that Exxon was even there all these years, with a front view of the Days Inn, suprises me. They must be a very tolerant bunch.

This makes me lose faith in our developers and engineers who can't fasten turbines to a building so that they won't fall during normal operation. Now them falling off due to a hurricane is understandable and acceptable, but on a typical windy day? We've tackled much greater challenges than this, this is just pathetic in my opinion.

Was the cake built to scale too? I like the cake model better.

I think the model is not as accurate in showing the design, based on the renderings. The top portion looks too short.
-
Exactly, the building's outer design is perfect.

This is one beautiful building thanks for sharing!

I think River Point would look real good within the Houston skyline. I love it, wish we were getting that one too.
-
Bravo! I hope all of these get constructed so that your job gets a lot easier! That takes a lot of time and work to do, there's just too many to add to the current skyline.
-
That is an improvement. I hope it does look good and is a success in the end since I hate this one so much.

I read somewhere that there was a lot of interest in 609 Main, and that's why the floor count rose to 49 when initially it was lower than that, like 41 I think. Since it's going to be 3 years before it is finished, I assumed any tenant signings will be all hush-hush for now.
Avossos, you should create a new thread concerning this planned tower in the galleria that you were told about, just a suggestion.
Sorry to be off topic.
-
If it is lighting along the edge, it is not overdone so it is perfect.

Interesting, let's hope it's another camera pending to go live.

The view will be real nice from the side facing Main.

Heh, yeah the mini golf and laser tag are a little questionable (I still think mini golf in the middle of a sea of highrises would be pretty sweet. Maybe the course could even be like a mini urban city). I don't think downtown is family friendly enough/touristy enough yet to attract those kind of crowds. Though you've got to start somewhere.. I think GreenStreet/the new touristy shopping district is the best bet.
In a way, i was basically just showing that the roof could be repurposed for other venues/entertainment, since GreenStreet doesn't have much more room for expansion. Maybe in another 10 years when they renovate the place again and there is less available land downtown/land prices have gone up even higher.
Playing laser tag in an outdoor urban environment, you can call the attraction "Urban Warfare," that should sell.
