  1. Let's say they are stars for the sake of this restoration. I wont ask any more questions. They are stars. Now lets add some top detail. Off topic: I refuse to allow anymore older buildings downtown to be demo-ed. These postcards show how many beautiful buildings downtown had.
  2. Explosion would have been the appropriate response
  3. Ahhh, stars. The walmart touch!! This keeps getting better and better
  4. I am impressed with the effort they put into this. Looks like it will transport students back to Oxford England. I am surprised just how much money these schools have. This and the school that bought the Houston HS campus of Memorial... wow
  5. I too have mixed feelings about the GRB. I don't know about the materials used, I dont know about the Ship references (color, shape, and smoke stack things), but with all that said - it isn't bad or offensive. I think this proposal would be great if they could ensure they don't ignore the building's existing features... I tend to not like buildings if they have parts from different eras and it is obvious. But the if the GRB can still look like a seemless, complete package after the work is done, I think it is worth the risk..
  6. Still sad to see it go. Could have been renovated
  7. I think it is best if we can keep all Exxon / Shell commentary outside this topic as best we can - i know it gets difficult because of relationships and trends. But some of this has gotten really muddled when re-reading (I can't tell if the above post is about Chevron or Exxon something) haha.
  8. Not sure, but I was under the impression that it was be the same sized complex as Phase I and II. Sorry about my lack of details.
  9. Calrification please: the final decision on whether to fund this project, or final decision on funding for this project? So this seems like a 2016 project.
  10. It goes back to the short sighted, idiot who thought it was a great idea to mess alter this in the first place. I wish that never happened. I hope it comes together and is still impressive. My biggest grievance is the top detail gone. completely gone... they need an overhang in there, but didn't design for that in the redesign. I hope to be impressed, but my expectations have gone down.
  11. Yes, inside and out. 46MM if I am not mistanken. Maybe up to 73MM - i forget.
  12. I spoke to another XOM employee who said he does not think HQ would be moving... I dont see why it makes sense to have things so spread out, but whatever. Shell / Chevron will be downtown for awhile. Even if Shell builds elsewhere, that process will take years. Chevron will probably build downtown, but who says they wont want a campus peice as well. I think the tower happens, but i may be too optimistic.
  13. It is my opinion. You can certainly have yours. Why is it a disappointment? 1. Because the initial renderings showed the building back to 100% true form 2. Because materials they are using are untrue and lower end than I hoped 3. Because the last rendering shows much detail taken away 4. No clock on the bottom 5. The coloring and contrast looks to lessened. That is why I think it is a dissapointment. I am a traditionalist though when it comes to renovations.
  14. I agree that this was better than the God awful mostrocity that existed there before. I worry how this fake stone lasts long term, because i think we are all aware... it doesnt. It is not stone, so it will eventually need to be redone. But you are all right, this will give an impression of the original state of the building - which is good. One thing missing, is the top detail, which really makes these buildings in my opinion. Without that detail, it doesnt look quite right. Comment to the picture above - whats the plan for the dark colored concrete on the lower section? painted brick? brick tiles? or...?
  15. Awesome - Urbannizer, did you include the 16 story parking garage downtown near Wedge Tower and Hyatt? I might have missed it. Also, West Ave phase III planned section? Alley Theater Renovation - scheduled July 2014 start. Thanks for your work here!
  16. So what is the likelyhood this gets built? If "Class A" buildings are in high demand, and most of the aging offices are "Class B", does that mean that even if the office space available goes up, it is the Class B buildings (that may be currently filled) that will suffer?
  17. Back to the topic - it seems as shell will also be building a campus. They are renaming 2 Shell Plaza. That pretty much is proof they are vacating. Does Chevron have the balls to do their own thing and build their downtown campus? I certainly hope so. This trend sucks so much.
  18. What? The are miles apart and, in my opinion, able to coexist, Dumb move if true
  19. This is true, and I agree. I wish the appearance of the building was all brick instead of the trendy, expected apartment building. I think we can all agree this building is showing a good trend, but it definitely isn't super exciting within itself, and that's ok.
  20. So the point your making is....? There should be multiple buildings occupying 1 city block and none of these blocks should be parking? I like the multiple uses for 1 block, and think that feels more urban. I think we see that north downtown. But in this former "parking district" it is unreasonable to assume that a parking lot block will be purchased in peices. This area of downtown is going to have, most likely, single buildings on it... Just because this is the case, doesnt mean it is bad. What's done is done here. I wish the 1900s buildings still filled these blocks, but, i will take what we get here. Happy to see the development!
