GreenStreet: Mixed-Use Development At 1201 Fannin St.

Yeah, But Betty Maldonado and Ben Reyas are not doing the fund raising on this one. -
the last I heard the City is in a pissing match with the developers. The City wants something in return for granting the permits. I think they want low income housing or perhaps its land for city development, I don't know.

Post Oak Shopping Center At 1703-1751 Post Oak Blvd.
gto250us replied to suzerain's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
I followed a guy with more money than skill one night on that stretch. He was driving a $200K Porsche and going like mad north on Shepard. He hit the first turn north of W. Gray and the understeer kicked in and he was all over Shepard from one side to the next. Rearend hit a light pole. He straightened out and went on his way. I loved seeing the idiot put a $10K dent in the rear end. -
Some cranes went upt last week over that way. Are they for part of this project or something else?

I am glad to see the upgrade. All in all I think the Houston Library is a joke. It serves more as a homeless shelter than a library. Especially when compared to others like the Boston Library of New York library. After all Houston is the 4th largest city in the USA. evern Philadelphia and Pittsburgh have better libraries.

He was there because he wanted to see what the hell it was all about. Isn't that why folks still go there today?

Poor home construction. Poor infrastructure planning More sleazy stripmall sprawl. I guess if you like the above, Stinko Ranch is for you. Have fun on your commute.

Bayou Place: Entertainment Development At 500 Texas St.
gto250us replied to houstonsemipro's topic in Downtown
I agree that a new symphony hall is needed but I don't see it anytime soon. That damn federal building needs torn down. That would help the area more than anything. As for an outdoor venue along the bayou. I don't think the freeway would help with the noise. I suppose they could put the freeway underground, a la Boston's Big Dig. -
I think that is is SO ironic that the damn place looks like something out of the mid 60's Soviet Union.

More than likely the space will get a couple of Fertita's restaurants and some mini-storage place. More of the same sprawl the Houston is famous for.
-
Not to mention the fact that it will most likely be destroyed every 5-10 years.

Hey, do they still light up city hall with the different colors? I always liked that. I know they have been cleaning the building but I think they are now finished but I have not noticed if they are still lighting it up.

You bet. Safeway really sucks. Always had. They failed when they were in Houston originally. Couldn't compete with Randalls. When the Randall family decided to sell out, they sold to Safeway. Since safeway took over Randalls they pretty much ran it inot the ground. Crappy service - Crappy selection. Folks voted with their feet. It was only a matter of time since Safeway took over.

Sharpstown Mall/PlazAmericas At 7500 Bellaire Blvd.
gto250us replied to swzine's topic in Other Houston Neighborhoods
If you are refering to the SW corner of BW8 & I10, then that plot of land will be a retention pond associated with the drainage improvements associated with the Katy expansion. The NW corner where Igloo used to be will also be drainage retention. Check out the Katy freeway website for plats. Oops the one schematic for that area is no longer available. The others are at the link below. http://www.katyfreeway.org/re-eval.html- 255 replies

Given the amount of money that is poured into the NFL, to ALL teams, there should be NO crappy teams. It only goes to show that there are too many teams given the number of good players available. Houston never should have been given a new team once they let the one the had go.

1st Pasadena State Bank At 1001 East Southmore Ave.
gto250us replied to SpaceAge's topic in Houston Mod
Back when I moved to Houston in 1981 there was a 7-11 or Circle-K on everyother corner. Now it seem as if there is a CVX or Walgreens on every other corner. I suspect what happend is that all the folks who ate at the 7-11 and Circle-K are sick, thus the demand for drug stores. Soon they will be all dead and it shall pass and we can get on with something new on every other corner.- 160 replies

todays Business section illustrates how crappy the Chron is. The main story is about Tilman Fertitta's restaurants and hurricane Rita. Who cares about him. With all of the local businesses devestated by the two storms they do a lead story on a crook who suffered very little. They even got the caption to one of the pic wrong, where they say his restaurant in Biloxi MS was destroyed by Rita - wrong it was Katrina. Thye can't even get the story correct when they are in the middle of it.

Houston Chron is a joke. The news that they print only serves to separate the Foley ads form the Palais Royal ads. The news items themselves come from other newspapers. I don't even bother to waste my money on it. They keep dumping free ones in my yard and they go straight to the trash. It is a disgrace that the 4th largest city in this county has such a crappy paper.
