  1. SkylineView - I didn't realize it would be jammed in there like that. What street is that? And do you have a helicopter for all your great shots?
  2. SkylineView - Thanks for those great shots! I guess the Randall Davis Metropolitan will be losing some views on that one side. That photo also shows there is still a lot of opportunity on Post Oak for more high rises.
  3. That's great news. All along Post Oak, the one story retail centers are doomed. That land is just too expensive for low density.
  4. We aren't saying Sears is doing well. But they must make changes to survive. They should either sell the land or renovate to survive. It looks like it should be on the side of I-30 in El Paso at this point. Tired, and resigned to crumble.
  5. It looks like a Chevette and a few Chryslers in the photo! No BMW's or Audi's. Might be 1992.
  6. If ever there was a place for Sears to reinvent itself, midtown Houston would be it. Let's start an email campaign to them!
  7. What is the scoop on this. I haven't heard a thing since the judgement against the developer. Anyone have an update?
  8. To Pragmatist: Thank you for sharing those great photos. I haven't seen them before. Someone (even Sears) could do something great with that building.
  9. I never said I liked townhomes with front loader garages. Nor do I like Randall Davis' Renoir, Meteopolis, etc. However, many of the buildings such as the mid rises and highrises today will be ok as the city in-fills. I've walked DC, Chicago, NYC etc and they have a lot of ugly (IMHO) buildings and row houses that you don't notice as much since there are so many buildings. Look, I love Houston, and wish builders could understand that people will pay for quality. Still, Perry Homes made Bob Perry a gazillionaire, so not everyone cares about aesthetics like you or I. Some people just want location and square footage. If you or I don't like what people are building, we either have to pony up the money and build it ourselves, or quit griping about it.
  10. All the "bland" (per so many comments) townhomes, apartments and office buildings in general will disappear into the ciry fabric as a whole once Houston is completely in-filled. And in 150 years that should done. Of course, it's highly unlikely I will be around to see it!
  11. As those were being built, people probably griped about how they didn't fit in, weren't the right style, shouldn't have replaced what was there before, etc.
  12. The Cosmopolitan would look way better with a tall spire or something. They got to the top and then quit, as Davis usually does. Look at his other buildings. One side usually looks like a jail, and then he Vegas's up the rest.
  13. They could do something like Discovery Green. That would be a win for all. They could charge for it, to keep med center employees from parking for free there. Single level surface parking is not the best idea.
  14. Just because something is there doesn't mean it should be. That Sears is in horrible condition, and has a huge amount of land that is under utilized. In addition, Sears is hemorrhaging money. I am not saying it should be torn down. Just redeveloped. Did you know underneath the cladding there is Art Deco detailing? Imagine the possibilities for that space!
  15. Driving to the office this AM, I can help but wonder why that midtown Sears is still there. If that was redeveloped, the entire area would change. Sears can't be making money there, and the land is worth a fortune.
  16. And lastly, maybe they could tear down those nasty corporate square buildings on the northwest corner of 59 and Kirby.
  17. Wow. That's big news. Kirby will look like a mini post oak. It really needs a hotel. I have friends and clients that always have to stay at the Galleria or Downtown. Kirby would be a great spot for a W or something hip. Close to RO, Highland Village and Rice Village.
  18. Yesterday I had an architect tell me that the Office Depot and Pappasito's at the corner of Kirby and Richmond were going to be demolished and redeveloped. It makes sense to me, but I've not heard anything about it. Has anyone here heard anything?
  19. Wow. That is shocking, but if they can Replat to multiple lots (even 2) it makes economic sense. Still, 99% of the world would have multiple generations living happily in that house just as it was.
  20. Actually that builder did the Highland Tower and had difficulty selling it due to the 2008 meltdown. He had planned two towers but switched in 2010 before the recovery (darn it) and built the townhomes now under construction next to HT. Now he is building a midrise and his successful townhomes on the Westcreek property he purchased. His Highland Tower building is really well done, IMHO. I would have loved a second one. I do agree more midrises would have been better though.
