  1. Tall skinny hotel, what is this NYC? All kidding aside I agree that this is better that building new. Can't imagine how busy Texas St will be once all the projects along it are finished. Just off the top of my head from whats there and to be completed. The Aquarium Music Venue Movie Theater 3 Performing arts theaters/halls 1 Park 4 hotels 6 or so residential buildings 4 office buidings (including tallest in Texas) 6-7 Restaurants maybe more 2 Church/Schools 1 Ballpark 4-5 bars All this within what 12 blocks? Then of course you add the retail that will come at the bottom of the new residential buildings. I don't think there is another street like it in Houston or maybe even Texas.
  2. Unfortunately I happen to know the guy that was shot near the Camden superblock. The story, as has been relayed to me, is they had parked in the area, not exactly sure where, and came back to their vehicle. Once inside they were approached by two males that appeared to be asking for assistance. They looked young and unassuming so despite my friends better judgment he rolled down the window. They asked if they could use his phone. He told them that he would make the phone call for them but not hand over his phone, at which point they pulled a gun to his head. At this point my friend yelled duck (female passenger in the truck) and smashed the gas pedal. These idiots apparently let 5 bullets fly at his truck and actually landed one. He drove a few blocks before stopping outside a bar were the female that was with him ran inside asking for help covered in my friends blood. She happens to catch the attention of a doctor inside. Apparently the doctor went outside and tended to my friend until paramedics arrived. Of course once they did he was taken to the hospital and went into immediate surgery and thankfully should make a full recovery.
  3. I don't disagree with you but to play devils advocate is that not what they are literally doing in the energy corridor? http://www.bisnow.co...al-sweet-spots/ http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/26149-skanska-in-the-energy-corridor/page-2
  4. I just thought about how cool it would be if that new two story glass portion in front of Allen 2 was a flagship Apple Store. It would definetley have the client base to support it.
  5. Thanks! If these are in fact the final plans when would they start?
  6. Anyone have an update on this? I've been made to understand that it is full steam ahead. No re skinning of Allen One but a full re configuration of the first two floors
  7. Isn’t the head of Marquette the guy who said they were considering multiple towers in Houston? I believe it was something along the lines of Houston reminding him of Chicago in the 90's. If so I’m glad to see a developer put his money where his mouth is. I just hope he spreads around the love to midtown as well. One can dream right? p.s. if someone has the link to that video/interview I’d love to see it again.
  8. Seems for the best. With the park view and access this would offer it seems better suited for a residential highrise.
  9. Crane is going up, some pics from yesterday. Sorry for the weird colors but the weather was not helping.
  10. The one in NOLA opened in December I believe? If the interiors look anything like those this will be a home run. Also, who would have thought that two of the more rare hotels flags would be flying directly next two the GRB. Great times in Houston.
  11. It looks like the letters are going right above the last floor. I wonder if that crown portion will have some lighting effect.
  12. At 502 ft tall it is almost excatly half the height of 600 Travis(1002 ft) so it will extend the skyline but the drop off will still be notable.
  13. I like to theorize what I would do from time to time. I think my preference would be to shift this building to the Houston Chronicle property. Then on this property build something like the W Hotel around union square in NYC. Trendy but respctfull of the historical nature of the area. I think that would be better for the streetscape and also further help support some of the bars and restaurants in the area. This would also place the the Stream/Exxex building next to the JPMorgan Chase tower which I think would look better than a gap between them. Just my fictional two cents.
  14. Saw the interior of Blackfinn is being worked on. It seemed like a remodel was already under way. Anyone have any information as to who may be coming in? It seems like a really fast turn around if in fact the new tenant is already working on the space.
  15. According to this yes but obviously this is a rendering from The Catalyst. They may have mirrored it or actually collaborated who knows.
  16. I picked up tickets at a Stubhub office there. It was a tiny two rool office but from what I could see it didnt look abondoned. Very cool building on the inside.
  17. From an employee who has seen it, the main description I was given was that it's U shaped. Not much more than that.
  18. I've always thought that The Allen Center plaza could easily be turned into our version of The Rockefeller Center. It would take some work but it already has two restaurant essentially facing the plaza and The Doubletree hotel.
