  1. I subconsciously hum the Imperial March whenever the Days Inn building ends up photobombing an otherwise good picture.
  2. Well, I guess come March they'll be powerwashing the garage with a wrecking ball.
  3. I walked by yesterday afternoon and it looked like they're finished with the new wooden deck. Two owner-looking guys were doing what appeared to be a walk through with an older lady. I wasn't aware that it was already open, so thanks for the heads up!
  4. Keep in mind that a scaffolding set-up is an interconnected structure. If one piece fails, especially toward the bottom, the rest of the structure has to compensate. Sure these are built with a safety factor, but if a critical structural element is removed you've got a domino effect that will take out the whole scaffolding. Strangely enough there is a video of this collapse (shot by tourists) that shows how it fails.
  5. Yeah, I agree. Can't believe they're putting stucco over the brick. I actually like(d) the way the facade looked before and think all it needed was new windows, power wash, and landscaping. That's kind of why I was interested in the next use for the building.
  6. Does anyone happen to know what's going on with the remodel across the street from this? https://www.google.com/maps/@29.7402937,-95.3794147,3a,37.5y,259.17h,90.16t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sIMkz9PIRoTSNIBZDfe_8XQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1 Looks like they're doing a pretty substantial reno.
  7. I agree that the mesh doesn't appear as per the renders, but perhaps they were just showing the outer layer as transparent (as is often the case) to show a bit of the inside? I rode my bike by yesterday afternoon and the corrugated metal facade appears as though it will look quite nice at night... and may even be somewhat transparent... when the breezeway is illuminated.
  8. I would hope that the net would catch it, but I had the same thought as to what they were thinking putting it up there.
  9. More info confirming they are not changing the facade and interior photos: http://houston.eater.com/2015/9/14/9325991/tarakaan-open-midtown-houston#4832840
  10. As Maxwell Smart used to say, "missed it by that much."
  11. This building looks amazing and it's going to get better as it ages. Thanks for the overhead shot, Larry!
  12. You can't see it in fkp5's photo, but the mini tower crane (some speculated concrete pump) base is installed on the North end of the hole. edit: Just kidding, a small section of the top is visible above the sand next to the white truck.
  13. My guess is that it's for meetings, office space, or some super basic bowling lessons? http://www.yelp.com/biz/houston-womens-bowling-association-houston
  14. On the Hadley side, the restaurant is Tarakaan. Apparently this was announced in April, but I'm just now hearing about it. They have some interior shots on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/tarakaanhouston/photos_stream They're also hiring for all positions if anyone knows someone that wants a service job.
  15. There are a good number of concrete trucks queued at the site. Looks like they're starting to pour the slab for the bottom level of the garage.
  16. This is the equivalent of a homeless lady getting transformed into a super model and you're complaining about her shoes?!?!?! But honestly, it does kinda bug me now that you pointed it out. Her shoes are hideous.
  17. And with the birth of the monorail, HAIF will come out with pitchforks demanding Monorail Level Retail and wondering who could have possibly been in favor of GFR.
  18. Are you sure you attached the correct file? This appears to be the prototype for a new tower crane design that has only been partly installed...
