More on Local Group Brewing , a brewery under construction at 1504 Chapman St, Houston. From a press release Eater Houston published today: A new brewpub is headed to Houston’s Near Northside in late 2019, promising “a patio with killer views.” That’s what Local Group Brewing co-founder Michael Steeves said in a press release announcing the news that this brewery with on-site kitchen and an air-conditioned taproom is moving into 1504 Chapman Street in Hardy Yards. Steeves, Todd Donewar, and head brewer James “Huggy Bear” Wolfe are behind Local Group Brewing, which will feature more than 20 taps, eight of which will be connected directly to ten-barrel serving tanks for beer freshness. The 7,500-square-foot space is in the works from Method Architecture and contractor GSD Construction, with a plan to gut the space, add that patio along with windows and garage doors, and dress the brewpub up with and white oak and steel furniture. The hunt is on right now for an executive chef for the upcoming pet and family-friendly hangout. https://houston.eater.com/2019/6/5/18654228/local-group-brewing-northside

Looking through records, this has been in the works since 2014 according to TABC permits and the bar's Facebook page. So it's not really new news, it's old news. 16. Merus Grill in Uptown Park Houston had private preview services this weekend. I received an invitation to dine last night but had to decline. I haven't seen interior photos of the transformed Añejo space, but my expectations aren''t high. 17. That was quick. I didn't expect Cafe Express to close this soon. You are correct about the competition from Mendocino Farms. And Eater Houston wrote about your post today: Following weeks of rumors, chef Hugo Ortega and restaurateur Tracy Vaught have officially confirmed that they’re working on a new restaurant in Uptown Park. The real-estate obsessives at HAIF were the first to notice that Ortega and Vaught had their eyes on the former Cafe Express space at 101 Uptown Park Boulevard, Suite 12. Now, a statement from Vaught confirms that they’re working on a restaurant for that location, but doesn’t provide a ton of additional detail. “Like with all our other concepts, we prefer to keep the idea close to our chests, as we like to have the ability to plan, develop and make changes at-will without being hindered by any previous announcements,” Vaught said. “So, yes, we did sign with Eden to go into Uptown Park. Our plans are still fluid and the opening is at least a year away. We have no further details at this time.” Many have speculated that Ortega and Vaught’s new restaurant will be of the fast-casual variety, which is exciting news for folks who can’t afford to enjoy the James Beard Award winning chef’s cuisine at Xochi or Hugo’s. Perhaps he’ll focus on the crispy tlayudas at Xochi, or bring the beloved ceviches from Hugo’s into a fast-casual format. More: https://houston.eater.com/2019/9/27/20886937/hugo-ortega-uptown-park-restaurant-opening Meant to post this when I saw it early October, but then that whole "accidental" fiasco with a mod taking it upon themselves to ban my account (thereby deleting over five years worth of posts and other's contributions). In late September, there was a construction bid page created for Hugo Ortega's Uptown Park restaurant with the following text: Proposed for Construction - Further action pending Owner's decision to proceed - Further details to be released late 2020 https://www.construction.com/projects/hugo-ortega-restaurant/

  25. More on Ship Channel Trading Co. in Garden Oaks. 923 Wakefield Dr. The Leader reported on the delay and estimated opening in early October. From the Leader: Levi Craig, owner of Ship Channel Trading Company, had hoped to open his coffee shop on Wakefield Drive by now. Then Tropical Storm Imelda had her say. Craig said he was inside the building working on the menu when it started to flood the morning of Sept. 19. At one point, the building had nearly 2 feet of standing water. But water quickly receded once the rain stopped, sparing most of his roasting equipment. He had moved a lot of equipment upstairs when water started seeping into the building. Craig now says he hopes to be open sometime this month. “We have all of our permits. I’m hoping two weeks or less,” Craig said. “Once I get the roaster back together we should be able to firm up an opening date.” https://theleadernews.com/business-briefs-bungalow-revival-to-renovate-new-headquarters/
