I didn’t realize it until coming up to 45 from 59 today but the colors of this mesh very well/are respectful to the other buildings around that part of the park. The exterior columns and painted blank walls on the back side match the red brick of OPP and the glass matches Hess tower.

I’m wondering this too.. how many feet is this supposed to be? The initial renderings didn’t seem as tall as it looks in person.

Any idea when a conversion is planned to start? This building will be a big part of my view this semester.

Hoping they retain the design and don’t try to reclad it like shorestein wanted to do.. wish those fins were structural enough to put glass walled balconies on.

Are there plans to renovate or at least repaint the old Hilton building to match the new one? They don’t mesh at all..

This was where the Loews hotel was planned?

Apparently im even more late.. just stumbled onto this architectural travesty by means of the TMC3 thread. WTF, this was by far the best tower in the TMC, and one of the best designs in the entire city. This seriously saddens me way more than it should. What a disgrace to Pelli.. RIP.

It really is. By far the best toll road/highway layout in the city now. I’m moving to Katy and not looking forward to swapping 288 for i10.

Nothing amazing, but coming out better than I initially expected. I like how the massing of this building almost perfectly respects the views of the nice glassy facade portions of Randys tower.

Lol, well thats too bad.. hopefully they're cleaned up and more replanted/grown back soon. 

As for the bridge lighting, yeah.. that seriously perplexes me. There are insane technically coded led light shows covering entire skyscrapers with dancing colors forming intricate pictures, and we cant even figure out how to keep 5 or 6 bridges the same colors?

Wow, i didn't realize how bad the collapse was. They had to remove a huge area.

To add to JLWM's list from January about problems found with the 288 project so far.. when driving south, I noticed there is no exit/signage from the main lanes to the Beltway. Only a beltway frontage road exit off to the right, even though you can exit the main lanes into the toll lanes, and then go up the toll ramp directly onto the beltway that way. Im not sure why there's no signage for that, or why they didn't make a nice defined double merge from the mainlanes and the toll lanes into one exit ramp like they did from the south side of the beltway going north..?

Also.. Are the southmore pedestrian bridges completed? I haven't gone up top to check them out yet, but from underneath they sure look bare, not the nice lush renderings we initially saw.

Probably there to help prevent erosion around the foundation of the bridge during floods, would be my guess. Hopefully its not all rip rap and the rest of the dirt area will be some sort of natural landscaping?

TIP: I found out the hard way if you wear a backpack, they will make you wear it on your front or carry it by the handle.

 

 

 

Ah yeah, the backpack policy is pretty standard for museums. We asked the same when I worked at the Blaffer, assuming the person wasn't comfortable with us holding their bag up front. Surprisingly, not one person made a comment to me on Saturday about my camera bag/backpack.
