  1. 8 row flint (yale & 11th) opening December 10th: http://www.chron.com/entertainment/restaurants-bars/article/Eight-Row-Flint-sets-Dec-10-opening-6657862.php
  2. Lee's Fried Chicken & Donuts is handing out free chicken & donuts & sides right now...said they'll open for business on Tuesday. Mighty tasty!!!!
  3. I agree wholeheartedly - the Wal-Mart is almost perfectly located to suit my tastes. Just on the other side of I-10 where I don't see it, but close enough to walk to. I just wish TXDOT would turn on the crossing lights on the I-10 & Yale intersection. I'm even more fond of the smattering of little restaurants even if they are chains / mini-chains and am especially looking forward to the new grocery going in right across I-10. Better than a massive empty weedy lot any day. And if they finally get around to turning the retention ponds into a park and extending the bicycle path to Wal-Mart somehow I'll be approaching Nirvana. Even the TC mid-rise will look better.
  4. Thanks RedScare...means more than you'll ever know.
  5. Thanks, me-thinks that's what blogs are for. You've got to admit your statement was pretty trashy at face value. Your post sounds like you'll throw out any kind of wild inflammatory statement with little or no basis in reality-land just to stir up trouble and begin demagoguing about others doing what you try to do so well. No I'm not going to dig through your massive backlog of posts - I'm pretty sure the 1-month sampling I've read through on topics that interest me have given me a very good idea of the type of (faux?) misanthropic ranting I can expect from you. As you said, most entertaining, thank you very much! - almost as entertaining as this smiley bar!
  6. My apologies SilverJK, I misunderstood what you were saying. My only excuse is a rather emotional trip to the VA hospital earlier that day - lots of young guys whose lives are forever changed mixed in with the old guys like my father-in-law. But as I reread your post I see you weren't really supporting Red's rant and it seems he wasn't either - just mouthing off in poor taste.
  7. Actually, yes you do get to decide if it was sarcasm or funny...this isn't elitist mentality - it is a fundamental right of civilized society. If we don't speak up for what it right then we descend into chaos & anarchy. Some things are truly right, truly sacred - making fun of handicappedpeople truly decends beyond the pale. I'm sure I'll get heavily burned for this, but frankly I find this antipathy & carelessness for those who have suffered so much already to be truly and heartlessly offensive. I find this specially offensive in regards to our military personnel who are returning from war with cruel & debilitating injuries. I just returned today from dropping off one of our proud veterans from the VA hospital - frankly Redscare & SilverJK you disgust me!
  8. @Ross, "I brought up HEB because they were a potential developer for Washington Heights. Absent City oversight, they would have done exactly the same thing Ainbinder/WalMart did." I totally & wholeheartedly disagree. I have seen a number of new HEB stores built in New Braunfels, Smithson Valley & San Antonio. Every single one of them has been a class act - beautiful mature oak trees in the parking lots just like the Montrose location here. HEB is a class act - they understand & care about their customers and go the extra mile. Wal_mart - they care about the bottom line...only.
  9. Okay, as a local homeowner who lives a few blocks north of Wal-Mart and has actually walked to Wal-Mart a few times here is the real situation: The walk from north of I-10 to the access road is a piece of cake. Sidewalks, oak tree shade, sweet. Crossing I-10 access roads = Taking your life in your hands (or legs) - although Tex-DOT built crossing signals in these intersections they are still trash bagged/inoperative - you're on your own here and Houston Public Works doesn't GAF. Once you make it past the I-10 access roads, there is no sidewalk along the stretch of road along the old San Jacinto Stone property. Just a very narrow dirt path. Frankly, I am happy to have Wal-Mart as one of the alternative choices for shopping in walking distance in my neighborhood. What really pisses me off is that despite the massive public outlays of cash this site is very inaccessible on foot.
