  1. That's the view looking south, towards the current (27 story) building under construction. At the very least, we will have the 3 buildings with the Caydon development. I'm wondering if there are any legs to the greensheet rumors, or if that was just supposed to indicate the current duo of proposed towers.
  2. Emporis always uses the estimate of 13.3' per floor when official heights aren't known on buildings. This will likely come in under 600'.
  3. I wonder if we’re seeing a stall with our tiangqing buddies on The Allen due to these issues...
  4. It might be "kitschy" in its concept and recreation of some object related to its field, but its execution and design is anything but. I guess it's serendipitous that the DNA double helix could make for a good design in any sort of campus, due to its graceful organic lines and cohesive gathering areas enclosed by the overlapping chains. Perhaps it's kitsch in concept; the design is anything but.
  5. Now I'll never forget that it was the petroleum building in the pre-Cambrian era...
  6. Can’t wait to see those cranes. Hopefully the height war gets even more hot after Caydon builds their 630-footer!
  7. I hadn’t noticed until now just how well the glass and brickwork complements the new Texas Children’s addition
  8. I find it odd they didn't put the deck on the south side of the podium to maximize sun exposure and allow for good views of the museum district / med center skylines. Beautiful building though, can't wait to see Upper Kirby continue to grow!
  9. It's about 438' without the fin height. It'll be in the 450' range, although the perspective makes it look taller than BHP (477').
  10. That makes me recall the post made months ago, mentioning a potential (large) development for the best western lot following the completion of this project. Plus, the conspicuously large blank wall on the north side of this project... makes you think something is going to happen
  11. Emporis typically uses an average floor height of 13.3' when estimating building height. Not really sure where the 37 floor count came from for the residential building...
  12. Does it seem like the proposed buildings don't take up the whole lot? Seems that there may be some room for another phase on the west side of the land.
  13. So I've noticed this twice now, where the columns on the lower floors are initially set back farther from the edge of the slab, then angle out closer to the edge. Why is this done? I feel like doing it that way costs more and requires a stronger column to account for the angle, and I can't think of any utility to it.
  14. I don't understand, why don't they integrate the garages into the base of the building? I know it would be more expensive, but it would also let them only use half the land they do now. Also, I think the residents could really benefit from being able to hop on an elevator straight out of the garage and get to their floor. It's like their lean operations forced them to engineer out a pretty intuitive feature.
