  1. Hotel across from Poison Girl??? What is that about and where?
  2. I've driven by it numerous times, and I have to tell you that it is not a place that you want to slow down and look suspicious taking photos. There is a sizable guard house, not just a small two-man shed but a security building this is quite visible on the street. It is big and palatial, but knowing that the money behind it comes from kitchy theme restaurants kinda dulls the luster.
  3. I may be the exception, but I think the version shown in the original rendering exhibits an unheard-of level of suckitude! The blue "fanfare" or whatever it purports to be is absolutely horrendous. It reminds me of everything that is bad with the Marq-E center. I would prefer the attempted industrial design of the current rendering anyday.
  4. The article on Swamplot is hilarious. The idea of the Greek Titans coming down to use the "urinals" outside of the Cosmo is priceless. Actually, though, these fountains look an awful lot like something Randall bought at Hobby Lobby. I half expect to see an extension cord running along side and plugged into an outlet to pump a little bit of water.
  5. I find it funny how these city center concepts promote the live/work concept. Like the 18 year old juicer at Jamba Juice is going to go home to their $800K townhouse...
  6. At 850 sq-ft, they are obviously targeting the much needed "realistic and affordable" range that places like Midtown Square and the Ventana do not. This is going to be great to bring in some foot traffic to that area. I like the idea of artist live-work spaces.
  7. I am a bit skeptical that this, in fact, is the final design. Where are the balconies that Houstonians demand (and then don't actually use)? How can you open your windows? I'm being sarcastic, but it does strike me a bit odd in Houston for a high rise with no outdoor element. The Four Leaf Towers down the street is an exception.
  8. The Office Depot strip center that you took the above picture NEEDS to be the next to go. I know they are supposed to be reskinning the shopping center cat-corner to this one, but it is a shame to have such a great development just north of this degrade into something more befitting of Richmond and Dunvale.
  9. I cannot believe that the designers of this condo thought it would be a good idea to place the Edge name (in its especially ugly type face) right smack dab at the top of the building. It makes the building look more like an office complex than a residential building.
  10. No, it is not. At first glance I thought the same thing, but all the lines converge at the same vanishing point as the road. It is just a strong visual perspective that gives it that look.
  11. There is a saying that "best" can be the enemy of "better". Sometimes focusing on trying to get the best possible outcome can delay getting anything done at all, when merely a "better" option could have been implemented sooner if not immediately. I am in the camp that is glad that HP is there in the reduced form that it is today rather than not having something for another 10 years or so. Both HP and DG are serving as catalysts to surrounding development, and they are anchoring the two ends of a new hotbed of activity.
  12. Man, I almost blew my coffee through my nose when I read your comment on Chuck! I agree that it does not look as if the top ornamentation actually extends the full breadth of the top of the building. Maybe we are going to have another Memorial Herman "off center crown debate".
  13. Well, their view may be obstructed (not sure what view exactly), but I would much rather view the Titan any day over the McDonalds!
  14. Just curious, but do they spray any type of sound insulating foam on the ceiling/floors? I live in a high rise (13 story) in Russia where the concrete slabs merely have plaster applied to them. You can hear people's conversations!
  15. Wow.... I'm not so sure about that parking garage. What once was old is now new again. I'm pretty sure that the colors they used are straight out of the 1960's Sears Appliance Catalog: Avocado Green, Wheat Yellow, etc.
  16. At what point do they begin the bricking of the exterior? And is this actual brick by brick laying, or is it more prefabricated brick "blocks" consisting of hundreds of little brick patterns?
  17. I don't really see Whole Foods abandoning the idea of a flagship in Houston (since there is not one here yet). If this "rumor" is in fact true, I would see them moving to one of the other mixed use developments, perhaps just down Westheimer. But then again, that get's awfully close to the Kirby location.
  18. ProHouston, looks like you are going to be our prime contributor for all updates related to BLVD Place! Thanks for sharing the pics.
  19. Could the curb appeal be any worse with that humongous parking lot in the front? I swear, it looks like a dental office from the outside. Why does it have so much asphalt in front? The inside is nice, but I nearly had a fit when I saw that it was selling for just under a million!
  20. I believe there is already a thread on the retail you are referring to (too lazy, however, to search). It is a renovation of the lower part of an existing parking garage.
  21. While I hate to see a bank go up on that corner, I have to ask, what ELSE were we expecting to go up on a small corner lot surrounding by the Central Market parking lot? A "mini mixed-use" development? Given the available footprint there, a single building is all that is going to fit, and given the choice between a bank, gas station, or CVS I would take the bank. I am SOOOO anti-CVS that I would probably have accepted with glee a used car dealership, ala the ones on Washington.
  22. You truly have done your screen name proud with that literate reference, UrbaNerd!
  23. I would hate to see some of that park land surrounding the tower to go to other developers. However, I can't help but imagine a cool, dare I say "mixed use", development around it with the Water Wall the central point. Kind of like around the Trevi Fountain in Rome. With all the high dollar condominiums up and going up in that area, it seems to be a likely area.
