  1. It seemed like Chase was being really careful to make the show appear to be filmed in Houston. They have a lot of aerial downtown shots, they always venture out to nearby neighborhoods/towns (e.g., The Woodlands, Galveston, Sealy, River Oaks, etc.). However, last night's show clearly showed a downtown Dallas skyscraper in the background of the image. I was a little surprised to see this obvious Dallas evidence in the show that tries so hard to be set in Houston. Oh well, as I said a while back, I'd rather have a show filmed in Dallas and set in Houston than have a show filmed in Houston but set in Dallas. It's like the producers are saying that Dallas isn't cool enough for the setting of the show, they have to pretend to be the cooler city to the south to make a compelling show. A slap in the face to Dallas if you ask me.

  2. Wow, nobody has been keeping up with Sugar Land Town Square. It's booming...still. They are adding more office space and retail/restaurant tenants continue to come aboard or expand.

New businesses opening in Sugar Land Town Square

Despite recent economic news, new businesses are opening in Sugar Land.

Planned Community Developers recently announced the openings of AT&T, Shogi Hibachi Express, Fred Astaire Dance Studios, Albert Luiz Salon & Spa and Awakened Yoga in Sugar Land Town Square.

  3. CJ Spiller or Eric Berry, whoever is available.

Neither was available when the Texans picked at 20. I think they got a solid Cornerback which, along with Running Back, was the biggest need. Hopefully we can get a good Running Back today in Round 2.

  4. Our best season ever and not much discussion. Maybe b/c everyone is waiting it out, being cautious?

Anyway, Transco will spell out T-E-X-A-N-S Monday night with their window lights!!!

Nancy has the scoop and picture here: http://blogs.chron.com/primeproperty/2009/11/post_9.html

I'm sure there will be plenty of people taking pictures of it.

I am a big fan, but yet cautiously optimistic. I have been fooled by the Texans before. While I do believe they can win on Monday and win several more to reach the playoffs, I don't have much confidence in them game to game. They are easily startled, and while they've been coming back in these games (Arizona, Indy), it's too late to take over and win. The Texans absolutely need to land the first punch Monday, we haven't scored on an opening drive all year, that's not the makings of a playoff team. I really hope we can turn the corner but it seems just as likely that we end up 8-8 or 9-7 and miss the playoffs.

  5. There is no excuse for the way this team took the field. They've had months to prepare, months to "be ready," month's to gameplan. This was a disgusting loss and embarrassing to every Texan on the field and sideline. If I was any member of the coaching staff, I'd lock myself in my office until next Sunday when I could attempt to make this right.

The sad thing is that it will probably be worse vs. the Titans this Sunday.

  6. Von Wafer has signed a 2yr deal with Olympiacos of Greece. I'm sure this is a result of not seeing eye-to-eye with Rockets management. However, I really wish there wasn't a falling out as we could really use his services this year with all our injuries.

  7. ...and we're getting Ariza

Sadly that's not a fair trade. I think this move will hurt us the most. Artest was the reason we made it to the second round this year. We've been needing his toughness and swagger for a long time, now it's gone. I'm sad to say that without Yao for 1/2 the season, without Gortat (looks like Mavs), and no Artest, we're gonna hurt.

  8. i did a quick google news search and i saw a few places that said he might not be returning.

Also, that twitter account i referenced had a logo at the top that said it was a "Verified Account." The tweets didn't sound like Ron Ron, but the logo sucked me in. That and Daryl Morey was following him, so I figured it was legit.

This gets more interesting, I did a google search and I believe the account I mentioned is the real account though his agent came out saying that it's a fake. I think Ron was messing around and really tweeted that he was leaving and now his agent is covering up. I got the account name I referenced from the Rockets Twitter feed so I'm pretty confident it's real.

  9. I thought is was Romano's New York Pizzaria. At least that's what it said on the box when we ordered from there last week. The pizza was marginal at best, but I did not make the toppings decision. The thin crust pizza was soggy in the middle and the sun dried toms packed a twang.

    Nobody's mentioned Fuzzy's or Frank's or Farago.

    Here's a vote for Fuzzy's.

  10. even his tweet last night said thanks to Houston, that it was fun.

That "tweet" wasn't from his account, it was an imposter account. His account username is "96TruwarierQB" if you want to follow him (of course you can't believe everything he says here either). There are no signs that he wants to leave Houston at this point, actually he's said the opposite. However, it will be difficult to sign him as he wants a lot of money and longer than a year contract. The Rockets hope to sign him to one year.

  11. Double Dave's? DOUBLE DAVE'S? Why is that abomination even on the list?!?

Good grief. Double Dave's is for people in the far exurbs who think Cheddar's is fancy Saturday night date dining. SORRY. Double Dave's has some of the rankest, nastiest pizza I've ever had the displeasure of tasting.

    /rant over

My vote goes to Dolce Vita. (Shocker, I'm sure. )

<ProHouston puts his hand in the face of anyone who talks smack about DoubleDaves>. Though I will admit that I've never had Dolce Vita. My fav is Pepperoni's though, but watch out, it can only be had in the far southwest "exurbs" of Sugar Land and the like :D

  12. I think it's time we start the official thread for the new season as the draft has ended and the free agent signing period has begun. I know there are a lot of tough questions for Morey right now, but I'm sure he'll come through with another great group of guys to add to our favorite NBA team that pushed the Lakers to 7 games.

Personally, I'd love to see Chris Bosh in a Rockets uni, but I'd be afraid to see what we'd have to give up to make it happen. I really like our bench and role players, and that hasn't been true in many years.

  13. It was Celebration Station.

The Malibu and Watercoaster were further south at North Freeway at North Shepherd. Both opened in 1979. The Malibu lasted longer than the Watercoaster. Wasted plenty of lawn mowing money there as a 14 and 15 year old.

I don't recall a "watercoaster" but the site the OP is asking about was definitely not Celebration Station. It didn't come along until much later. I remember taking batting practice in elementary school at the park mentioned by the OP. But Celebration Station wasn't built until I was in high school, if not later. I also think the OPs site is further south than Celebration Station, closer to Richie.

  14. I say the Rockets should go ahead and pay the luxury tax. Les has made so much money, one year of paying this isn't gonna kill the team. I think we need to resign Artest for sure. Why anyone would question this is absurd unless he wanted the bank!

Also, we need another center, not just a backup center, but a very good one, even one that is a starter. Maybe have Yao come off the bench. If we can get Emeka Okafor, that would be great. Give up Landry and Lowry or even Brooks for him if we can. Yao's contract is up after 2 more seasons i believe. Rockets shouldn't give him the max since he is injury prone. Playing for the Chinese National team is killing his career. Maybe the Rockets can provide some $$ to the Chinese Basketball Assoc to release Yao?

After next season, T-Mac is off the Rocket's payroll, so they can go after DWade who is a free agent like Lebron. We can afford to pay DWade 20 mil/yr. The question is if he will want to come here.

This might sound a bit too optimistic, but if T-Mac's knee makes great progess and he becomes the T-Mac of old, he can help us win that championship in 2nd half of season. He is expected to return around January.

I disagree on many fronts. For one, I don't suggest trading our young guys who were handpicked by Morey and are growing into their roles very well. If you have been watching our guys for several years, you know that our problem has always been the bench. Well, we finally have a bench, let's not trade them away. Secondly, Yao will never be a back up. Limit his minutes, sure, but he's not a spark plug that needs to come off the bench. I say we go after a free agent or package some "ride the pine" guys for a trade. I can't think of any besides Brent Barry though. Or Tmac.

I think you keep this team intact and give them more than 30-40 games starting together and we'll improve organically. Not sure what to do with TMac. If he can ever come back healthy he might help, but his attitude and injury issues make me not want to deal with him ever again. You don't pick another team to get to the finals as long as your team is still in the playoffs. Also, where has he been? He should be traveling with the team and sitting there at the end of the bench every game just like Yao and Deke.

  15. yeah, i did see some stats on yao's minutes as the playoffs drew closer, and in the playoffs. He definitely cannot play so many minutes, those extra minutes could have put just enough strain and punishment on his foot for it to fracture

Do y'all think Yao would've been injured if Deke hasn't had his career-ending injury early in the playoffs? He could've taken some of Yao's minutes and maybe mitigated his risk of injury.

  16. What a game, what a team? When was the last time we saw a Houston team fight like this and have this much heart? It's been a LONG time, ok, maybe the 'stros on the World Series run, but it's been 12 years for the Rox. Thank you Darryl Morey and Rick Adelman for making this a fun playoff push! And thank you to Battier, Brooks, Landry, Scola... for your heart and team first attitude. Poor Kobe and Phil.... :D

  17. From Adam Wexler at 610:

    Since Artest's year long suspension he's earned 15 Techs, 1 Flagrant & 1 Ejection.

In same time for Kobe: 55 Techs, 3 Flagrants, 2 Ejections

    Now that's an interesting fact.

  18. At MMP it's at least that, probably 20 ft. Makes for easier in/out, not everyone has to go up.

Toyota Center also. The court is below street level. I wanna say the Astrodome field is below street level as well. Anyone remember?

  19. Yao doesn't miss a shot,

Brooks plays like a premier point guard,

    Artest doesn't hog the ball,

Battier is named captain of the 'All-Rambis' team,

Mutombo wags his finger after a block,

And Brent Barry dunks one like the old days.

    SWEET!!! :D

I'm on board too, but I am nervous about how we play when everything doesn't go just right. We couldn't have played better than game 1 so be prepared for a closer game tonight.

  20. Why is it so hard to be a Rox fan? We had a #2 or #3 seed in our hands, then we CHOKE and end up #5 and playing on the road. Now, even if (and that's a big IF) we can win our first playoff series in 10+years, we'll still get annihilated by the Lakers in round 2. We should have won last night which would have allowed us to avoid the Lakers in round 2, but no... we had to CHOKE.

This team could use about 20 more regular season games to prepare for the playoffs. This group hasn't had enough time together yet. I just want a first round win, is that too much to ask?
