    ^^^ no surprise here...

however, it's really SAD that the powers that be... are so very HIGH ON AUSTIN, TX, they are more than willing to construct something in a heartbeat (WITHOUT AN ACTUAL TENANT) just for the sheer momentum of constructing in a city as dynamic and magnificent as austin, tx.  what on earth, has happened to this form of magic in our wonderful fair city of houston, tx... ?

    sigh...

To who's benefit is adding to the glut of unused office space?

Never had the chance to try and In N Out burger but I know several people who have tried them and they love them. Worked with a guy who lived in California for years and asked him to compare them to Whataburger and he said there was no competition. Another friend who goes to Vegas and California all the time says the first thing he does is go to In N Out as soon as he lands. I want to try them so I can see for myself.

I was raised on Whataburger but having lived for 30+ years in California, I seldom get to partake anymore.  I think In N Out is perfectly good burger although not really worth it to me to wait in the very long lines.  It is much a much smaller burger than W so that's a negative.  On more recent visits back to Texas and W, I always seem to be a little disappointed in the quality of my burger, usually it's the stale bun.  I still love the taste though and I give it the edge over the other, probably because its such a part of my youth.

^^^ the DULL SMOKEY GREY EXTERIOR CLADDING upon this edifice is simply horrendous!  what on earth were the designers thinking?  it looks as if they were doing everything possible to save money on this building.  what a SHAME for the students at TSU... for they simply deserve much better in my most humble opinion.  TSU has been needing a new first-class library for like decades... and this is the absolute best that they could do?  this particular edifice is simply not going to age very well.  that very DULL EXTERIOR CLADDING IS ALREADY A DISASTER upon this brand new edifice!  simply SHOCKING!  as i gaze upon the HAIF illustrations of the brand new edifices being constructed over at UH, one can easily verify the STARK CONTRAST.  the buildings at UH are beautifully designed, wonderfully/soundfully constructed, completely enhance the surrounding areas that they are intended, and shall age very well and invite added area retail, etc.

the MAIN CAMPUS LIBRARY upon any college/university institution should always be a complete architectural powerhouse.  the LIBRARY, as well as the MAIN ADMINISTRATION edifice,  should always in my opinion... set the overall tone of architecture within and throughout the institution.  however, this particular TSU LIBRARY looks like something derived straight out of the early 1980s.  it just could have been designed so very much better than it is in my view.  there are certain elements throughout its design that just reeks of certain large HIGH SCHOOLS throughout TEXAS!

maybe/hopefully at some point, our GLORIOUS HAIF PHOTOGRAPHERS can get inside and snap some interior illustrations for us.  one can only PRAY that they are much better and much more representative of the wonderful students and faculty at TSU.  GO TIGERS GO!

I'm a long time lurker and very rare commenter but I just can't let this go by without saying something Gclass. Why do you think the students will necessarily have the same opinion of the building finishes as you?  I've seen some of your comments praising some buildings I think are horrendous but that doesn't mean everyone thinks the same that I do.  I happen to think this library looks great and I'm sure others will too...and others may not like it.  Regardless, I hardly think they'll have a huge case of the vapors as you seem to.

Then I would suggest you stick to that. If you were attending an architectural conference in New York or Chicago and someone asked you to critique and examine  this building and your educated response was to call it a turd, they would think you are a crazy person and not worthy of serious architectural discussion. Same goes to the guy who committed sacrilege by Photoshoping that obscenity on the side of the building.

    Lighten up Francis.

  5. DT Houston is missing major retail $$$$, because its retail is mediocre at best.

If they can secure Bloomingdale's (to the old Sakowitz building), bring Macy's back (at the base of the Marlowe), and add a Nordstrom (at the base of a tower further down Dallas Street), all the other retail requisites will fall into place along the corridor. DT Houston would never be the same, and this retail catalyst would cause DT to erupt into a new wave of development that would make this most recent/current boom look tame. If they can get this underway, there wouldn't be one vacant lot left in DT Houston...every one of them would be under development.

There you go bashing on Houston again you hater!

But I'm sure all this retail will happen in downtown if we can just get the people who are trying to destroy the US and Israel out of office.
