^^^ grew up / raised in beaumont, tx. i currently reside in houston, tx. however, working abroad.... middle east...
Ahh ok cool, just curious. Thanks.

^^^ much obliged skwatra, as per your very generous iPic Theater insight. i have had the opportunity to experience these types of theaters in dubai, uae. this concept is something that shall take a bit of time to get used to within the houston region. it is just a VERY different movie concept all the way around. however, it is indeed geared around it's very distinctive price points, as well as ultra amenities. this is how they strategically maintain their upscale patronage.
Where are you from?

Are you people really griping about the architecture of a Hampton Inn?
Lol
I'm glad you exist on this forum.

I'm personally all about balance. I think the design of this building will balance out with the residential building across from Discovery Green.

Wish we still had this:
All I can say right now is WOW!

Small town businesses are closing ship in downtown, you have a new office tower on capital waiting to be build with the foundation already set in place. On top of this you have 609 main in the mix, you have a prolonged oil slump which forecasters have predicted once the Iranian oil market hits, the saudis will have no intent on playing ball again.
This 100 story tower isnt going to get built for years, the houston economy is in the DUMPS right now. Get a gasp of reality some of you guys. Theres a reason why Cheveron shelved their skyscraper and other projects have been put on hold.

Talk about a downer

I couldn't find the original post on this development. I parked across the street to go in to work this morning and I saw two gentlemen surveying the site. One of those gentlemen was entering the abandoned restaurant. I think this is starting up. I should've talked to one of the guys but I was in a rush.

Just curious as to why you think it has aged poorly? Is the building in disrepair or has it suffered from neglect that has not been disclosed? I have worked on the 73rd floor going on 6 years now and I think it's one of Houston's more beautiful buildings, inside and out. Tourists queue up sometimes to take pictures on the 60th floor. I also see tourists take selfies outside with the tower in their background. Seems like an iconic, classic building.
Count me in on wishing for a twin tower building being built one day. Not a similar or fraternal twin, but an actual twin tower.
Yeah I don't get that opinion either. I think this building is awesome.

Why not let seasonal shops take up residence in the meantime? I was eating dinner in Portland around Halloween at a wedding and all these kids were running in the streets dressed like zombies. How about a Halloween costume shop right now?
How about hell no?

If this city wants some respect then it needs to respect itself first. I don't understand why damn ugly Christmas lighting is still allowed anywhere! Downtown should be glowing at nite. It should be a place people are wanting to be.

If this gets built then you can expect a ton of more development to follow. You always need just one developer to take the plunge and the rest follow. So this is actually pretty big if this gets built.

I personally never liked the idea of the Light Rails, made driving in those areas even more of a game of Russian Roulette.
Light Rails? And how is it a game of Russian Roulette? Follow the traffic signs like anywhere else and you should be just fine. If you don't like the idea of rail running thru the middle of a street then go to Boston or even Denver and realize it's a normal part of life in those cities.
Here's Lower Main St in the 1990s in all its glory. Not a great shot of the street itself however.
I can't believe we allowed the city to decay so badly.

We seriously need like 2 more supertalls in our skyline.

Amazing what a little signage does to that intersection.

Wait till you see the sculpture going up at Main and Walker.
Its going to be amazing!
Oh wow really? I didn't know something was going up there! Are they putting it up now or what?

I don't know if the district is currrently in a soft opening, or sneak peak, or fully opened but my co-workerd went yesterday. She said the service was terrible. She only ordered a salad but it took 50 minutes for it to arrive. They did comp it for free and included a free coupon for a future meal. I doubt she's returning though, her salad looked pitaful. Bummer, I was hoping this place would be good.
One bad experience shouldn't keep her from going back. The place seems to be doing well.

This is a massively planned project. Now that the city has a plan for how it's going to grow, I wonder how this will integrate with downtown.

It took this city long enough to realize how much art brings things to life. Very excited that more monies will be distributed to promote artwork throughout the city.

If the story is true that some idiot hit the scaffolding and drove off, I hope they nail that person.

Saw Singing in the Rain this past weekend at the school. Amazing students, amazing performance... I can't wait for these kids to move downtown. It just seems like the perfect move.

What a shame. I like the renderings, but what they are destroying underneath is heartbreaking.
They aren't destroying much. I did some work a while back on this building, and it's like stepping in to a basement it's so closed in. I'm excited for the redevelopment because this building is a bit of an eyesore to the south view of downtown.

Think if this single residential tower sparks another Uptown style area next to Downtown. Like it would seriously connect the East End with Downtown.
