I couldn't find a topic on this building but the old Magnolia Ballroom/Brewery Tap/Red Cat/a ton of other stuff has been going through renovations for months. It looks like the full building is being renovated. Does anybody have any ideas what is going in here?

I've been waiting to hear what people thought of the stone as it was going up. I know the finished product is still to come and may look better but thus far, the stone is worse than I expected.- 1,067 replies

They just both accepted new positions with other real estate companies. I don't think it should have too much of an effect on this project.

I always feel like the Union Station portion of Minute Maid is underutilized for such a cool space.

I hear it called Bellaire sometimes. Doesn’t make any sense since they are just naming it after a Street and a Bellaire already exists. Most of the people I’ve talked to don’t know there is a Bellaire.

I think that it’s been abandoned for many years. Used to be a club.

I think similar to Greenstreet - the success of the project in the near-term, and thereby the chances of those reserved parking lots getting the future towers, is somewhat predicated on having a built-in market which the towers could provide. I'm still really excited about the project but the towers would just make it cooler and more likely to succeed.

I heard this a while back, like the first week of the shutdown. I loved the place and was a regular but I think there was always a problem with identity here. As honeymoon it looked like a classic cafe but they shut food down fairly early and tried to operate as a bar at night. The cafe feel just wasn’t conducive. When they rebranded to boomtown, they made it even less like a bar, shut down food earlier then still tried for evening crowds. It just never worked after about 2:00 each day. I think a more rounded design or a commitment to being either a cafe or a coffee shop or restaurant or bar would have made this more successful. I’ll miss it.

Paul Building/Republic Building At 1018 Preston St.

Big issue right now is the massive homeless presence on the corner next to this building. Hopefully this helps with it. Got my renovation projects wrong, I was thinking this was the building next to the Hines Spiritual Center.- 11 replies

Aspire Post Oak: Multifamily High-Rise At 1616 Post Oak Blvd.
kbates2 replied to Mab's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
I don’t hate the Arabella. I loved the initial renderings and think that the finished product has some ok features and some crap features. It isn’t bad overall but it is also far from good. I had hopes that it could be a beautiful building but then I remembered that Randall Davis was building it and it’s about as good as we could have hoped for from him.- 1,031 replies
