  1. I have not been here in a while and really enjoyed the print ads from further up. The Weingarten's people are still into real estate.

Anyone remember the Piggly Wiggly and Weingarten's that were in Clear Lake City and Nassau Bay?

How about the radio station that broadcast classic music from the top portion of the Nassau Bay Shopping Center?

One of my high school English teachers was a DJ there and worked third shift on Saturdays. We used to crash the station and hang out with him when he was on air.

He always welcomed us into the studio.

  2. I first heard these over at a friend's house in Clear Lake City about 4 years ago.

They told me they were frogs and were a type that had not been in this area before. Sorry, I cant remember the type of frog but we searched through the bushes till we found some of them.

I said we didnt have them in League City and they told me not to worry, I will...

This year they have hit our area. At night they can be heard outside. It sounds like maybe a few of them for now but there will surely be more to come.

They do sound like a small bird or a smoke alarm low battery sound but they are actually small frogs.

  3. I was about 16 when they disappeared from Clear Lake City. One time I was in there close to closing time and saw the manager putting money in the safe. It was under the floor mat just inside the main entrance door!

After they closed up, a fabric store by the name of Hancock Fabrics moved in and is still there. It had to have looked strange but we were in there not long ago and the floor mat is still covering the safe. The employees must have thought I was out of my mind lifting the mat up to see if the safe was still there. It is.

  4. Remember that huge processing plant they had at Shaver and HiWay 3? May have been Richey and HiWay3. What a huge place they had. Must have been quite an operation in it's days.

I found the candy recipe. Thanks for that too. We will have to give it a try soon.

  5. Yes, the theater was in the corner of El Camino Real and Reseda. I remember putting some Pop Rocks into the time capsule... I think I was 12 at the time.

The shopping center that Safeway was in was built with Elmers glue and particle board and almost fell down on it's own.

Weiner's was there and then Ross Dress For Less. Shortly after that they leveled the whole thing. There is a real nice stand alone Walgreen's there now. They relocated from the El Camino Shopping center. That whole effort was a nice improvement for the area.

Remember Piggly Wiggly grocery store across the street form the theater? That was the only place to shop in the area outside of Weingarten's in Nassau Bay.

  6. If I remember right, it was named Gulfgate Roller Rink. That one was there for a long time too.

I remember the shops in the mall too. Before Almeda Mall, Gulfgate was it other than stand alone stores in Pasadena.

The Gulfgate Theater is gone along with the hill it sat on. Mini storage there now and the 610 crossing bridge is sort of there. I think they are leaving it in place and are rebuilding the theater end of it to match the new lower grade.

  7. Anyone remember the "Clear Lake Theater" in Clear Lake City?

It had a mega screen and a balcony and was built in 1965.

It folded and sat empty for a long time before becoming a night club that lasted for years. It is now an orential buffet.

The time capsule is still buried there last time I looked. I think it is scheduled to be opened in 2020 if I remember right.

  8. Globe was north of Gulfgate on I-45 West side. It is now a huge Home Depot.

Sage was on I-45 around the Hobby Airport exit on the East side. It is now some sort of trade school I think. At any rate that building is actuall still there.

For the records, there was another Globe store in Pasadena. I think it was on Southmore.

  9. Cool forum. I just found it a while ago.

Yes, there was a roller rink on Loop 610, just west of Gulfgate Mall at Telephone Road.

It was a trailer supply company after that and is now all rebuilt with new retail buildings.

The whole Gulfgate landscape has changed a lot in the last couple of years but you do remember the roller rink in the correct place.

Anyone remember the big oil fountain inside of Gulfgate Mall?
