With all the choices to live in Houston, why would someone pay inflated prices for a 70's house with low ceilings, non-open floor plan, needing new windows and a huge amount of other work to live in a suburb that thinks it's not a suburb .... western-memorial? And no amenitities or sidewalks to boot. And no zoning so the main arteries all look like a mess. And people with attitudes who always have some comment about the other suburbs.
So, different strokes for different folks is your answer.
TOUCHE!
And the "no hitchhikers" signs are outside of New Territory. Doesn't seem to have hurt demand in there in the least, and that's an understatement. We just bought a house in New Territory. The prison bothers me not one iota. It is far from the worst thing that could be on "the other side of the tracks."

The Astrodome was still cool and hadn't been turned into a soulless concrete donut by Bud Adams' demands (that we're still paying for).

I was purely tongue-in-cheek on the Sugar Land thing, VicMan

Whenever the evil Republican suburbanite Limbaugh-listening FoxNews-watching mobs complain about crime in low-income apartment complexes out in the burbs, the right-thinking progressive inner-loopers ask them, "Where are you going to put them? Where are the poor people supposed to live?" It's one of the most popular petards to lob on HAIF.
So if we demolish thousands of units in Gulfton, where are those people supposed to go. I suppose the right-thinking progressive answer is "Sugar Land."

5. Nolan Ryan traded to the Rangers
Technically, he wasn't traded. John F***ing McMullen didn't want to re-sign him. I hated him almost as much as Bud Adams. Almost.

...But the city rejected the highrise’s plans again yesterday . . . for the 10th time. The city said its own analysis showed the project as currently proposed would result in an “F” level of traffic at the corner of Shepherd and Bissonnet.
....which already exists.

What a joke. The traffic studies that were done are fine. It is merely an excuse. Just say, "Some of our big contributors really don't want this in their backyards" and I would have more respect for that.

This thread title keeps making me think of terrorist or other conspiratorial activity.
Gotta' stop reading Clancy.

Heck, I remember when the Timberstone Apartments was a BMX track.

I haven't followed it terribly closely, but from where I sit, the whole kerfluffle appears to be the result of a personality conflict between her and the chancellor of the TAMU system.

One of the things I was most proud of during the Rockets championship days was the fact that Houston was one of the few cities at the time that managed to celebrate its championships peacefully:

I've always said that if you go to an Astros game hungry, you're going to leave broke.

Aramark may get a piddly fine from the TABC for serving minors. The clerk who sold the beer however, gets arrested, frog walked to the jail, and faces the possibility of a year in jail and a $4000 fine. And, you withhold their tip for not wanting to go to jail?
I prefer to tip on service, not one's willingness to flirt with arrest. But hey, it's your money.
If cottonmather is as ugly as he says, I doubt the server is flirting with arrest.

Man, if you don't know how to pay for a $7 seat and move down to a better one by the third inning, then you deserve to stay stuck up top.
I've used that method before but noticed the ushers getting pretty Nazi about it the last year or two.

What, no Westfield?
Dang, I guess I'll never amount to anything!

The most odious remark:
Banning outside food at Astros games -
I brought it up as a stupid idea to point out that calling I-10 "The Katy Freeway" is a stupid idea.
I see. I got twisted around in the thread.

It's there now, why not change it?
Every street name sign would need to be changed. Major public expense.
Every business would need to change its advertising, stationery, etc and update all of its business partners, customers, suppliers, etc. on the new address. Major private expense
It's not as easy as it sounds.

Why isn't 45 North called the Woodlands Freeway?
Because when they named it, the Woodlands wasn't there.
-
Of course, I usually refer to US 290 as "that @#%$@%&^$#@" but not for long.
-
Colloquially, I think people stop using the "------- Freeway" name when it stops feeling like a freeway and more like a rural highway.

Not so lost anymore, they just won the Blake Griffin draft sweepstakes.
This won't necessarily improve the Clips one iota. It won't be the first time they've had a No. 1 pick.
Anyone know what Michael Olowokandi is doing these days
-
Do you guys want Artest back?
Yes.
-
the Clippers are a lost cause. look at their track record. no one can bring that team back from the dead, especially with them in LA. they need to move elsewhere for any hope of resurrection.
I think the problem with the Clippers is much less location than it is management (specifically, ownership).

I know with New Territory, the annexation by Sugar Land will not take place until the MUD debt is retired (2017). I imagine that Aliana and other potential annexation areas would have the same scenario.
