  1. Thanks. As I've said, I'm trying to rely on memories that are over 40 years ago. I just thought that I remember my parent's and my dad's cousin going to a skating rink on IH-610 just west of Telephone Road. A "Diet Rite Cola" sign is also coming into view when I think of that rink. Chet Cuccia
  2. I also remember us going skating at a roller rink (1962-64) that I think was on IH-610 west of Gulfgate Shopping Center/Mall. Was there such a place in that vicinity? Or in this case, has my memory failed me? Chet Cuccia
  3. Like I said, I'm remember all of this from over 40 years ago. Sometimes I don't think that there might have been another of the same store in another part of the city. Where about is Sharpstown? Chet Cuccia
  4. Most of those stores that were in Gulfgate Shopping Center were part of chains. I think that I could safely say that at least 90 percent of those chain stores are no longer in business. What do you think? Chet Cuccia
  5. Excellent! I'll try to print this photo and show it to my parents. I also remember us decending some stairs to an underground bowling alley. Do you remember that, too? Chet Cuccia
  6. Someone a few days ago posted a message that said the name of the Pontiac dealership near that Globe was called Frizzell. I just remember the Pontiac emblem/logo on the sign. Chet Cuccia
  7. Was I right about Newberry's location? Chet Cuccia
  8. I remember my parents taking me to a toy store there in Gulfgate. Walking the sidewalk east from Weingarten's, that toy store what right in the corner just before you turned to the right. I remember on that pedestrian bridge, as you came over from across IH-610, the first store that you came to was "Newberry's." I remember when walking into that store, you could always hear and smell popcorn always popping. I remember the clerk weighing peanuts, jelly beans, malted milk balls, etc., on a scale and putting them in a small bag and handing them to me. Chet Cuccia
  9. The recipe that I printed didn't call for any kind of nuts. I didn't get diabetes until 1998. Naturally, when I was a kid I ate candy. I remember that piece of Monterey House candy was small, brown, and it tasted like 95 percent pure sugar. Chet Cuccia
  10. Well, if the neon sign is gone, I guess it's just a matter of time until the rest of the building is gone, too. Chet Cuccia
  11. If my memory serves me correctly, the Weingarten's supermarket in Gulfgate was at the far west end of the center, right next to Woodridge. If anyone knows exactly where, let me know if I'm wrong. Chet Cuccia
  12. As of today, does Prudential's neon "rock" still light up at night? Chet Cuccia
  13. I printed that recipe for Monterey House candy and I gave it to my mother. She's gonna make some of it for my dad. I won't be able to enjoy any of it because I'm diabetic. Chet Cuccia
  14. You prodded my memory. Yes, I now remember a Pontiac car dealership either near or next door to that Globe Department Store. I heard that Globe has been long gone and that there is now a Home Depot store on the spot on ground that Globe once occupied. Chet Cuccia
  15. Thank you again. I printed it. I came out pretty clear. I don't own a computer, so I can't do what you told me to. But now I have it on paper. Thanks. Chet Cuccia
  16. Once again, thank you a lot! I don't want to risk losing your photo. Is there a way that it can be sent to my e-mail address so that I can store it in my folders? If you can do that, that would be great. My e-mail address is: chetcuccia@hotmail.com Sincerely, Chet Cuccia
  17. Hello Gnu, No, it is the best shot anyone could have taken. I wouldn't have known it, so my mother looked at your photo and she verified that that was indeed the house that we lived in a little over 40 years ago. Thank you very much. I printed it. Someday I hope to be able to go over there and take a picture of it myself. But like I said, I live 100 miles away. Chet Cuccia
  18. Yes, I remember Gibson's. I didn't know that there were any of those stores over in Houston. I live in Orange, Texas (100 miles east of Houston). The stores have all bit the dust. There used to be one here in Orange, one in Beaumont, one in Vidor, and one in Port Arthur. Chet Cuccia
  19. I went to Globe between 1962-64. I remember us going into the pet department and my parents bought a solid white cat. I'm now 47. Chet Cuccia
  20. On the side street of Gulfgate (I think that the name of it was either Woodridge/Woodbridge) was a department store that we went to. The name of it was Globe. I heard that a Home Depot is now in that spot. Does anyone out there know anything about this? Chet Cuccia
  21. I also remember on the side of Gulfgate that Weingarten's was on, was a street, I think that the name of it was Woodridge/Woodbridge. I remember us going to a department store on that street called Globe. I thought that I heard that a Home Depot is now in that spot. Does anyone out there know anything about this? Chet Cuccia
  22. I think that it might be on the other side of the street. I don't know about you, but I can't see anything through those trees. What exactly did you enter on Google to come up with that? I wish I knew how to forward e-mail it to my parents. Chet Cuccia
  23. Maybe I remember a Playland Park, too. I remember us going to another amusement park, and I thought that I could see from it the neon "rock" of the logo of the Prudential building. Is that possible? Was Playland Park near that Prudential building? If it was, then it's possible that my memory is still good after over 40 years. Chet Cuccia
  24. What is the East End Folder? How do I check it out? Chet Cuccia
  25. Yes! I forgot all about that until you mentioned it. It was wrapped in a little piece of paper. It was brown and it tasted like it was almost all sugar. Chet Cuccia
