  1. I read that the casket they got for JFK costs $3950, quite a bit of money back in 1963 for a box to be buried in. I'm so glad that I've donated my body to science when I kick the bucket.
  2. Do you think that any amusement park will ever be built in Houston?
  3. It's a shame that these kind of places get demolished.
  4. I didn't understand the article in today's Chronicle about the plans for the Astrodome.
  5. It's amazing that you stumbled across this. You never know what anyone else may possess.
  6. What do you mean "don't tell him"? He can clearly see everything that you, I, and everyone else posts. The one that is now closed down and abondoned is located on IH-10 and FM 1136 just outside of Orange, not far from where I live. The building is still there. To the best of my knowledge, the one on IH-10 between Anahuac and Winnie is still open. But my belief is that its days are numbered. I think that Cracker Barrel and other roadside places will eventually take over. "Stuckeys.Com" says that there are only two Stuckey's on IH-10 in the entire state of Texas: the one between Anahuac and Winnie and one in El Paso.
  7. Yes, Stuckey's had racks full of postcards. Subdude needs to try to find out if he's in possession of some "treasures." Who knows? There might be some postcard collectors out there who would pay a good price for some of them.
  8. "BERTHA'S" sounds like a name that would attract people. A current restaurant that I see ad of in the Chronicle called "DONARAKI'S" should do the same thing.
  9. This photo topic comes in second right behind "Tour de Telephone."
  10. These are excellent photos. But it's difficult looking at pictures of restaurants when you're hungry. The Shamrock looks like it was quite an upscale, ritzy place in its day.
  11. OK. Yes, the Sun was in Beaumont, not in Houston.
  12. Back in the 1970s there was a porn theatre in Beaumont called the Sun. It was inside a converted service station and it had a tall wooden fence around it. It was renowned for showing "Deep Throat" and "The Devil in Miss Jones." The police raided it many times. It eventually closed down. Then later there was a porn theatre in downtown Beaumont. It was simply called "Adult Movies." I was just a teenager in high school when I called and asked them what kind of movies that they showed. The man said "soft core." I asked him when he was going to show "hard core" movies. He said: "The next time that I want to go to jail."
  13. That Impala looks like it would be comfortable to ride in.
  14. Yes, both Sevfiv and Subdude! Yes, Markus is the one whom I was referring to when I said that someone on this forum said that you could still the the X-rated movie that was playing at the Red Bluff Drive-In Theatre even though it had a tall fence around it.
  15. Dinah Shore sang: "See the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet."
  16. Yes, that is a nice looking car. As I've heard many people say, "They don't make 'em like they used to."
  17. I'm surprised that Subdude didn't post a photo of it.
  18. Bank of the Southwest? I remember back in the 1970s I had a credit card from that bank. With all of the mergers and name changes, I would be surprised if it still has that name. If it's still a bank, what's the name of it now?
  19. Someone asked about a store called Grant's about a week or two ago. You can see one on the right hand part of this photo.
  20. That top photo is excellent color for the late 1950s/early 1960s, judging by the body styles of the cars in it.
  21. I think I can safely say that there is at least one IHOP restaurant in Houston. IHOP is full of calories.
  22. Since Astroworld is gone and it sounds like there are no more amusement park in Houston, does that leave Kemah with the only one?
