What percentage of people in the world own an automobile? You sound like a GM plant. New York, Boston, Washington DC, Mexico City, Delhi, the list goes on and on.

Niche I always thought you were intelligent but you're just another sheep that eats what is fed to you. Steve Radack and Ed Emmet love people like you.

I agree. The Pierce Elevated, as with all freeways, ripped up a vibrant area. Tear down the Pierce and let people go around, and downtown has a chance to flourish, and midtown could possibly extend into downtown.

Then why is nearly every major city around the world adopting transit initiatives? Is Houston some special case? If LOS ANGELES can extend its system to Santa Monica, Houston can't build a university line?

Automobile is NOT ideal. Get your head out of the sand Niche. Much worse things could be said about Houston.

I've been on roundabouts many, many times. They are a novelty but an annoyance also. Also, burying 45 is okay but subway is out of the question? Just shows our twisted priorities here.

Nice try Niche. I have about 50 relatives there, and my opinion is not based simply based on my observations, but their testimonials as well. I myself rode both the bus and train while there, and reading houstonians praising bus is about as big a joke as there is. No comparison, more like an evil necessity.

After staying in vancouver for a week, it's fairly obvious the light rail system is a joke and any rail system should be underground or elevated here. The speed, efficiency, convenience, and comfort is unmatched. Houston is a half century behind any "world class" city.

How are they going to relocate when that is where they are from?

Having a real HPD officer would be more reassuring

It appears the complex has hired security now. That's more a deterrent than anything; what is one lanky security guard going to do against six thugs?

I wonder why a resident would be parking on the street, and especially at that time of night on a weeknight, and especially on that street, which is away from the action. Once Coco's closes that area has a lot less people around. Layal and Front Porch are still open but their crowds vary by the night. That little stretch there is basically abandoned.

Dear Resident: We feel that you should be informed of an incident that occurred on Valentine Street. Specifically, a resident reports that, as he was parking his car outside building A on Valentine Street around 11:25 p.m. last night, he was approached by 6 men described as African-American in a white Chevrolet Impala. According to the resident, the men accused the resident of having hit their car. One of the men held a handgun and requested the resident's wallet and iPhone. The Houston Police Department is investigating the incident.

City Council has approved a deal to have Southwest Airlinesbuild a $100 million expansion of Hobby Airport to open it to international flights for the first time in more than 40 years. The 16-1 vote authorizes five international gates and a Federal Inspection Services facility at Hobby. Southwest will pay for the expansion in exchange for control of four gates, an exemption from rent on the newly constructed facilities and a rebate linked to any increased sales at the airport once the airline starts its routes to Mexico and the Caribbean in 2015. Houston Airport Director Mario Diaz promoted the expansionas having the potential to create 18,000 jobs and inject $1.6 billion a year into the local economy. He also predicted that the “Southwest effect” of lower fares would take hold if the airline were allowed to compete with United Airlines, which with its partners has a near monopoly on Latin American routes out of Bush Intercontinental Airport. “Today’s historic vote is going to allow the creation of international and federal facilities at Hobby,” Councilwoman Melissa Noriega said.
