  1. I thought had gone up too. They were $13 at TX Children's - thought they went to $15, but maybe they came back down? I know if you are admitted there and have multiple day stays - there are organizations that will help with the parking fees.
  2. Nothing happing on the Vida Mariscos site. But there is groundwork on another site. Didn't see any sign going up yet.
  3. But on the positive side, a new dental office opened in the newly constructed strip center between it and the gas station on the corner at 36. Speaking of the gas station on the corner, the empty section that used to be Whataburger years ago has a sign on it for The Boudin Company restaurant. We'll see if that one makes it.
  4. Good news that the First Choice ER building might be getting used. You said it closed before the pandemic. I'm not sure that it ever actually opened up. The old Brewingz store next door that had a sign being converted to a Korean BBQ. Still says that, still has the dumpster out front, but nothing has been done in six months. The IHOP is still open. That was supposed to be the location of the Raising Cane's originally. They have been teasing us with that restaurant coming for years - so not going to hold my breath.
  5. This would be a welcome upgrade if anything remotely like this comes to pass. Right now that view of Commercial Drive looks nothing like that. You would be hard pressed to notice that Commercial Drive is an actual road through there as opposed to a bit wider lane in a parking lot. And actual greenery? Sidewalks with people walking on it? What is this world coming to?
  6. Sounds like they are rehashing the original plans of the one that was to be built in New Caney. Grand Texas was going to have a Texas themed amusement park, but all they ended up with was the water park/adventure park + RV park and racetrack.
  7. I think when the Forbidden Gardens off Franz Road in Katy closed a while back due to Grand Parkway expansion, this place bought up their terra-cotta warrior re-creations and maybe other pieces.
  8. I dunno. I have always heard that a lot of very wealthy people fly in to Houston expressly for being treated at TMC. And I imagine some of their stays are for a while - with families. Seems like a market that could support a luxury high-rise hotel/short term apartments type building. 🤷‍♂️
  9. Don't hold your breath ground breaking for the proposed Town Square above anytime soon. The old Sears Auto Center demo is wrapping up. They dug a huge hole and back-filled - maybe some old fuel tanks or something to be remediated. This week they are putting the final touches on more asphalt parking lot and taking down the construction fence. They paved a pair of Die-Hards and put up a parking lot.
  10. That would definitely be a better location for a restaurant than where the old Los Cucos was. That is one of those restaurant sites that has been thru so many different places and none have stuck.
  11. Remember fishing in Harris Reservoir as a teenager. Wonder if this will help Holiday Lakes from flooding every time some one turns on their windshield wipers. Interesting - the picture looks like the same size roughly as Harris Reservoir - but the text says it will have twice the water as Harris and Brazoria Reservoir combined. Guess it will be a lot deeper.
  12. I did not realize about 63 locations were still open. Looks like about 1/2 will close. That was a staple growing up - (actually Wyatt's was before Luby's bought them) - but it's been years since I have been. The fried cod with a strawberry shortcake dessert. Something about that liquid red sugar. Yum!
  13. As does Kroger. If they have them in stock. It's hit or miss.
  14. The JCI location on I-69 in Stafford (Meadows?) closed a while back. It is now a CaboBob's burritos. Can't remember if they repainted it yellow or not.
  15. That hobby must have been bigger than I thought. I think there is/was an RC race track up on 59N somewhere. Remember seeing it when we would go to East Texas. Also on Chimney Rock there was one right north of Bissonnet.
  16. I think it would make a great place for a water park. Maybe part of an amusement park complex.
  17. Since the W brand is so dated, wonder if they have DeBarge playing in the lobby/elevators.
  18. Agreed. I took my girls on it 15+ years ago when they were little. They loved it - talked about it forever. It's uncrowded and something about it's simple utilitarianism is endearing. It's our cheap Disney ride here locally. (literally)
  19. I worked in a medical laundry (Not the TCH one) during college. The second picture definitely looks more like a laundry facility than the old pic from 1971. I am jealous - it looks like both of them have a/c. That would have been nice.
  20. I know ketamine is prescribed in hospitals. Just started noticing it is popping up in infusion centers in store fronts. Sounds like a repeat of the "pain clinics" from about 20 years ago. Oxy anyone?
  21. This is the kind of property I hope the State buys when it comes up for sale. They passed a bill (voters have to approve of it in November) allocating a fund of $1B endowment for parkland acquisition. If managed well - should be able to get $50M a year easily in income to spend. Tuck these mostly undeveloped 1300 acres into the Wildlife Management Area - it would keep that area about as natural/rural as could be.
  22. Stayed at Goliad SP several times over the years. If you want to go camping and are late getting a reservation - this SP usually has open slots even the week before. + if you have a RV/trailer - a lot of times the FHU's are available. The Presidio La Bahia is just a short walk from the state park. And right across the street from the Presidio is General Zaragoza's birthplace. You can thank him there for Cinco de Mayo. (Drink a Modelo in his honor). Used to have another state park down there in Edna. (Texana). It got cut as a state park maybe 10 years ago during a state budget cutting session. (it was rented from the County I think. ) It has now been incorporated into the County park (can't remember the name) that was on the other side of the highway - and the whole area is a nice place for camping/fishing/equestrian weekend. We went to the zoo in Victoria one weekend when we were camping there - it was nice for it's size and inexpensive - but like you said - very hot so animals were taking it easy.
  23. I totally understand why the walls were put up in an area like where 610 runs through Bellaire. Bellaire was there for decades before the freeway came through and ripped out blocks of housing. What I don't understand is why neighborhoods that were built after the freeways also get soundwalls when the freeway is rebuilt. Thinking of places like Greatwood in Sugar Land when I-69 was rebuilt past the Brazos River. The freeway was there decades before the neighborhood was built. In fact - one of the reasons the freeway had to be expanded was due to the neighborhood being built. So in that case - why should DOT (taxpayers) have to pay for that? Shouldn't the cost be on the developer/home buyer? If you buy a new house built next to a freeway - it is going to expand at some point. If you want quiet - should be in the cost of your house.
  24. So the old Brewingz location is being converted. I can't see the name of it while driving by - but a Korean BBQ and hot pot restaurant is taking it's place. And the old Papa Murphy's storefront is now a Cell Phone Repair store.
