What did they do with the beautiful tiles and cool fountains? All the mounted patrols watered their horses there.

Covenant House is a joke and should be closed down since it is being used as a juvie jail and only promotes prostitution and drugs in the neighborhood.

Call it what it looks like. Armadillo Humping Buffalo (Bayou).

Yes, why would this be a bad place to live? We need details.

It wouldn't be that difficult to redevelop a former theatre into a new theatre, the problem is that all the politicians in Houston are also "developers" and only think in terms of tearing down the old and rebuilding with an inferior product in order to gain a hefty profit for themselves.

I know it's only a rendering, but ditch the palms and get some of those high tech, digitally remastered live oaks the Chron was talking about a couple of days ago.

Tommy Lasorda ( our season tickets were directly behind the visitors dugout) became so upset by my heckling he sent the cops to tell me to tone it down or I'd be thrown out.

Please, that's not nearly as bad as the construction at Woodhead and Westheimer. Now that's suburban.

Kirby is starting to give me claustraphobia. I try to avoid it, and I think other people are too, as Shepherd seems more clogged every day.

Thanks for the link.

Please, the Robinson Public Warehouse has been a warehouse since at least 1950, so what flood are you talking about?
-
Actually, I found the storage warehouse to be more appealing. And I won't find the call to prayers to be any more enjoyable than the ringing of Christian bells.

All those Weingarten projects are atrocious. Do they let their children design them?

I have already stopped shopping anywhere in the center and I live about 1/2 mile away. That includes Kroger and Sur la Table not getting my money. The Weingartens are dead to me.

This dates me, but I saw the first Star Wars in first release at one of the Galleria theatres.

I'm sorry, but considering the suffering and death those poor sea creatures endured, I have no fond memories of this place. Anyone remember the beluga whales imported in the late 1980s that died about 2 months later? This place was a joke and deserves to be gone. Plus, I think the same architect who designed Sea-Arama must have designed my high school, Westchester. Same stupid arches.

My two cents. Saw the Beatles at the Coliseum in 1965, the matinee of course, as I was only 12 at the time. Then later in the '60s, saw Nureyev at the Music Hall. Powerfull, but I think he couldn't figure out how he ended up in Texas. Neither could the Beatles.

I'm no expert, but Fournace came first. At least it was there when I was a child in th '50s.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but from my childhood in the 1950s, it seems that what is now called West Mount Houston, was designated as W. Mont. Houston. As in West Montgomery-Houston Road, because that road led from Houston to West Montgomery County. Can anyone clue me in on this?

Technically, Robertson Stadium was completed in 1941. It may have been a WPA inspired building, but I don't think it was actually built by the WPA.

Homeowners in this area, and I am one, bought realizing this area wasn't going to sustain single family homes forever. We bought 20 years ago hoping our investment would increase as the area became more ameniable to multi-family homes and apartments and eventually mass transit. This is probably the only affordable area close to downtown and on the west side. P.S. I also live on my property.
