  1. My snarky comment today: The picture on the right could be you! .....trying to get out of your condo during the next big flood.
  2. This is the only picture I can find in my phone. I think my mom said this was from the 40s.
  3. This was my grandparent's dairy. Closed in 1976. Sam's Club sits on the property today.
  4. My brother worked for Air Liquide. They always referred to this building as the "bunker".
  5. Super Serv was a buying group for independent super markets. I believe we were able to purchase certain items at a discount each week, if we belonged to the Super Serv group. We had a small independent store and purchased from Schepps Grocery Wholesale. It may have been associated with Schepps. There was another group that was similar and their logo/group was "Lucky 7" stores. This is my dad in the 50s and if you look at the circular behind him, you can make out the Super Serv name.
  6. Well, that's interesting. Full Line Food Company owned the property and moved thier warehouse operations about a year ago. I assumed they sold the property. Maybe not.
  7. This property has been cleared. Entire block on corner or Robbie and Airline. Anyone know the plans? https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/1915-Airline-Dr-Houston-TX/14608593/
  8. Property has been for sale for along time and now shows under contract. Any word as to plans for this property? https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/605-E-29th-St-Houston-TX/23560267/
  9. Get your bids in by tomorrow for the Esperson Building... https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/808-Travis-Street-815-Walker-Street-Houston-TX/23477122/
  10. I don't get it. A car ran into the building. It's been without brick, with plastic sheeting, for more than a year. I don't understand why they have not been allowed to repair the building with the brick that is there.
  11. Just posted on The Leader: "Houston City Council approved the submission of a grant application to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in October of last year. In May, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved the $898,000 urban outdoor matching grant for the planned park, Sunset Heights Park. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department grant will be matched with public funds and donations to repurpose the METRO Transit Station." https://www.theleadernews.com/community/planned-sunset-heights-park-receives-grant/article_839a126a-c936-11eb-b90c-53e9690afee7.html?fbclid=IwAR0KWB9mfHep9XIyuE0P-aAIJT94xDwysFCVRJtjNbzvoL9-OHxjgK9Mp3o
  12. If I were to build a casino in the area, I would definitely head West of town. Try to pull in some of the San Antonio and Austin customers. Somewhere along Columbus/Schulenberg, if you can find enough land.
  13. Did I understand the video correctly? First floor parking, then a floor of retail, and then 3 more floors of parking? Also, they referred to the building the party was held as their "sister building?" Looks like the building at Studewood and 11th. Can anyone confirm? Also, Mr. Houston? 🤢
  14. It is a school. I don't remember where I saw it, but will try to find it.
  15. Took these last weekend. When I went by yesterday, there is 8 inch indention or so, the excavator is gone, and there are 6 metal bollards erected in 2 places around the circle. The only thing I can come up with is a future splash park? The rest of the transit station remains unchanged for now.
  16. There is heavy equipment there and a small construction fence. Hopefully this is getting underway. Will post a pic when I can.
  17. Too bad they can't pick up the Town in City Brewing building and somehow incorporate that into the mix.
  18. Junior's Produce, which took over the Canino's space in February, is no longer at this location. Will be good when the construction is done. The market is currently a mess!
  19. Drove by the market on Saturday. It was a cluster to say the least. A large portion of the market is fenced off, and the parking lot is being taken up. Many of the vendors in the back were placed under temporary tents. Only 1 way in and out around Junior's (old Canino's). One entrance on the North side for the large trucks for the wholesale trade. Will be interesting to see how this shapes up. Also, it will be interesting to see how many of the wholesalers stay.
  20. Either would be an improvement over an abandoned Metro station.
  21. I don't want to hijack this thread, what about the now abandoned Metro station at 20th/W Cavalcade. Wish Metro would sell that and recoup some tax $ or donate it for a park. I know most Heights residents are anti- chain, but a Starbucks drive through would fit beautifully on the property that was the Metro station.
  22. Fitzgerald's was originally the Polish Home. My father told stories of dances and parties there. Best story was either during or right after WWII. He and his cousin were at a dance there, and while dancing, his cousin hit a girl's leg and tore her stockings. The girl's date insisted that he pay for the stockings as there were expensive and hard to come by. A fight ensued at the top of the stairs, punches were thrown, and the date fell down one side of the stairs and my dad and his cousin ran down the other.
  23. Would not want an East facing unit in this building. You could end up with no view if something is built on the East side of that block.
