  1. I went by today and the site looks like it has been cleared and there is a construction fence around it.
  2. The best thing we can hope for is that the developer will change his mind, or once the uptown area begins to get built out, then it may be at least partially hidden.
  3. That explains it. I had been wondering, you seem so much different on SSP. You were always very informative I was wondering what had happened to you. LOL Back on topic my favorites for lighting at night are 1000 Main Wells Fargo Centerpoint tower (old Reliant tower) JP Morgan Chase (20's one) Continental If only more buildings could have other things than the cheap Christmas lights around the top.
  4. Well the chronicle has finally gotten it. Feb. 18, 2005, 11:48PM Downtown Hyatt returned to lender 977-room hotel will be conducting business as usual By L.M. SIXEL Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle The Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Houston has been given back to its lender in what people involved are calling a "friendly foreclosure." The Hyatt Regency will continue to operate the 977-room hotel as usual. The Hyatt has a lease far into the future, said Don Henderson, vice president and managing director of the Hyatt Regency. "This building is a piece of real estate," Henderson said. "Real estate goes on the market and off the market all the time." Henderson likened the situation to the sale of an apartment building. Occupants still pay rent, but to a different company. The Hyatt, which until recently was Houston's only large downtown hotel, was owned by Rushlake Hotels USA. Rushlake, which didn't return calls, is also in the energy business. The company also owns the former Sheraton Lincoln, across the street from the Hyatt, which remains closed except for its garage, said John Keeling, senior vice president of PKF Consulting, a hospitality consulting and brokerage firm in Houston. The Hyatt has been a focal point of downtown Houston ever since former Mayor Louie Welch and other civic leaders celebrated by breaking a magnum of champagne against the side of the new hotel. On opening day, Dec. 4, 1972, news reports focused on the "grandeur of the hotel" and marveled at its 30-story atrium, glass-enclosed elevators and revolving rooftop restaurant. Even the new attached parking garage, which was then one of the nation's largest, attracted news coverage.
  5. OK, thats what I thought it was but I wasn't sure if thats what it was. By the way it is 31 stories. I think that is what got me confused. Here is some more info
  6. I was wondering the same thing. Also does anyone know how many units there are?
  7. These places may not be where you want to go but I know that on Sunday about the time you went McDonalds and Krispy Kreme are open. The couple times I have gone there there were a fair number of people in both. Krispy Kreme is on the ground floor of the parking garage for Reliant's new building (on Main). McDonalds is on the ground floor of some HPD building (I think it has curved sides, and its brown, with little blue signs sticking out that say HPD) it is about a block and a half off main on Polk or Dallas.
  8. Judging by those pictures of the Houston one on the website this place is pretty nice. I have never been to one so I didn't really know what to expect, but that wasn't quite what I expected.
  9. Well I know that the actual towers are going to be built somewhere on Asbury Place. The address to contact them is 8 Asbury Place Houston, Texas 77007 713-880-1616 That could be the address of the actual building, or at least close.
  10. Yes, that was a Texaco building but not the one they were talking about. Isn't the proposed Clarion building on a block pretty close to Heritage Plaza? I believe this is the Texaco building I believe they are talking about. http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=117812
  11. I believe that you may be right, since it is about the same shape just with a new facade, and it is also on st. joseph parkway. Days inn site on emporis: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=117658
  12. From the sound of the article they are going to try and keep the businesses there, and it sounds like when they start construction they will try and build a piece, move the retailers, and then start the next piece. "He hopes the current tenants will relocate to the new development. Wulfe plans to coordinate the construction schedule so tenants won't suffer while the pro-ject is being built."
  13. On the side of that article they have a list of other "gems in the Texas Medical Center". Did anyone else knew that Univesity of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer center plans to demolish the UT Houston Main Building (formerly Prudential Building/1101 Holcombe) in 2007 to make room for expansion. I'd like to know what you guys think about this. More info on the Houston Main Building
  14. I actually like Fry's, recently I bought a turntable there that I could not find at Circuit City or Best Buy. That is the thing I like is that you can find almost anything, but that is the drawback it is so big it is sometimes hard to find anything. Does anyone else feel the new Circuit City in Meyerland took the Best Buy approach to design, with the CD's and DVD's in the middle and with music blaring. I hope that the new Circuit City in Sharpstown keeps with the design of the store it is replacing across the freeway.
  15. If you take the same floor heights as the Huntigton considering they are both upscale, thus higher ceilings. Then with the around 30 foot crown, it would put the height around 580ft. Which would also make it the tallest res. towere in Texas.
  16. I would like to know your reason for putting Sharpstown mall out of its misery. I go to the Foleys there alot which is pretty good and has muuuch better prices than the Galleria one. Also many new stores have opened up in Sharpstown mall, and when I am there it usually has a good amount of people there.
  17. ^If anyone wants I'll type it out if that's what you mean, I have nothing better to do.
  18. Ahh yes, an even larger relatively treeless parking lot, muuuch less of an eyesore.
  19. That would be cool if they could somehow open up the retail in the Shamrock before the tower is completely done, just so Main will finally bemore tied together in that area.
  20. Yeah there isn't much room for one unless they tear down that little elevated sitting area, and even then it would have to be a tiny circular one.
