  5. Nice to see the sunken water retention fields are working as intended. I assume the TMC BioPort project will be similar, but on a larger scale. A new road appeared on the side of Building 1: Levit Green Boulevard: Sino Biological will be listed on here!!

  7. Apologies if this is the wrong thread, but Houston Downtown District/Downtown Redevelopment Authority President Kris Larson appeared on the Chron's Looped In podcast. Found his comments about studying the transition of restaurants/other businesses from the tunnels to the street interesting: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/article/kris-larson-downtown-central-houston-district-17597881.php

  8. Some interesting ideas put forth by Kris Larsen of Central Houston, Inc. I especially like the idea of connecting Post Houston to the Theater District.

  11. A lot of that was actually done by the owners, many of whom moved to new houses farther away from Downtown, and turned the old house into a boarding house, or sold it for another use. When I get a chance, I'll see if I can find when the CG Pillot house was demolished.

  12. I guess it was inevitable that a family named Hain would have a son they would name Samuel, or Sam. I'm betting they gave him that name as a joke. The name "Samhain" is very ancient name in Great Britain. It's pronounced “SOW-in” or “SAH-win”, and it was a pagan festival celebrated by the ancient Celts halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. It began at dusk around October 31st and likely lasted three days. Samhain is considered by many to be the precursor to modern Halloween celebrations. Samhain is also the modern Irish word for the month of November.

  13. I need to report localized street flooding on a certain part of Buffalo Speedway. I believe this is only a blockage someplace? On all of Buffalo Speedway, there was only one small section that could not contain the heavy rains this past weekend. Hopefully it's fixed in the master plan. Or hopefully, the blockage is removed soon.

  14. "Dallas-based real estate developer High Street Residential is hoping its hospitality-inspired approach, plus the tower’s location near the popular Discovery Green Park, will help it fill the 43-story, 309-unit apartment tower it recently opened downtown. Designed by Houston-based architecture firm Ziegler Cooper Architects with interiors by Dallas-based Waldrop + Nichols, the tower’s luxury finishes and amenities aim to attract renters by choice – people who rent not out of necessity, but out of the convenience and lifestyle found in urban high rises." https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/43-story-apartment-tower-opens-downtown-houston-17596342.php#photo-23201778

  15. Houston Parks Board released this document called "Beyond the Bayous" a few years ago. The idea is that while we have a great trail system along 9 bayous, we need to connect them using rail trails, utility corridors, on-street bikeways and neighborhood streets https://houstonparksboard.org/about/beyond-the-bayous Extend MKT Trail Westward to Hempstead (and toward Northwest transit center) Bend around the railroad junction and across I-10 Join Memorial Park trail adjacent to railroad New Buffalo Bayou pedestrian bridge Trails along utility corridor all the way to Westpark Connecting to Newcastle trail south

  16. You haven't driven over here on a Friday or Saturday night, have you? You should... it's actually sort of exciting to see the scene over there now. Houston's own Rainey Street District. Anyway, parking is insane and lines up and down the roads of 20th st. In fact, I won't be surprised if we see more parking lots over here. With no good transit options (I guess there's a bus but I doubt this crowd takes the bus), expect to see a lot more cars in the area.

  17. There are actually a few projects utilizing utility ROWs that are in-progress or done, so I’d say the likelihood is probably pretty high!

  19. The name of Cle Group's next Midtown bar is Palapas. I initially thought the name was Los Cabos. However, a few weeks ago, a new Instagram account linked to Cle Group began posting updates. According to the Instagram bio, this is a collaborative concept from Cle Group and another group. The other group is also behind Kiss, a restaurant with locations in Houston and Dallas. Kiss is a joint venture with Cle Group. Palapas is taking over the former space of bar & grill and lounge concept Amahle. It's the three-story building at 1916 Baldwin St. Like Amahle, Palapas will be a lounge and hookah bar. It will also have a bar & grill component. Although the address isn't included in any of the posts or the bio, based off the details provided on Instagram, this is going to be located at 1916 Baldwin. Here is the description from Palapas' Instagram bio: 3 levels of exploration Sexy interiors + beautiful patio spaces + exotic plants Flavorful dishes + tropical cocktails Specialty hookahs + live music & DJs Prior to Amahle, the site was renovated for Oakmont. Oakmont was a bar from Ayman Jarrah. Jarrah owns the 1916 Baldwin property. He is also the owner of (or maybe was, I don't know the current status) Midtown bar 360 Midtown at 2400 Brazos (it was previously known as Gaslamp). https://www.instagram.com/palapashtx http://palapashtx.com

  21. From the design plan included in materials submitted to the city of Houston's Planning Commission, a two-story structure is going up at 2002 Beall St. A restaurant will occupy the first floor. Two bars are also planned for the first floor. The total square footage for the first floor is 6,508 sf, according to the site map. The restaurant / dining room portion will consist of 1905 sq ft. The second floor is going to be a deck and bar. 1,360 is the total square footage for the second floor. So, it seems this will be a bar & grill establishment. First Floor Area A - Restaurant: 1,905 Sq. Ft. B – Storage: 185 Sq. Ft. C – Restrooms: 476 Sq. Ft. D – Hallways: 401 Sq. Ft. E – Kitchens: 940 Sq. Ft. F - Stairs 1: 160 Sq. Ft. G - Bar 2: 165 Sq. Ft. H - Deck: 1898 Sq. Ft. I - Stairs 2: 125 Sq. Ft. J - Bar 1: 253 Sq. Ft. Total First Floor Square Footage: 6,508 Sq. Ft. Second Floor Deck Area K - Deck+ Bar: 1,360 Sq. Ft

  22. We did some Black Friday shopping there and we parked at the transit center and took the BRT. The parking situation was out of control at the mall. We timed it really well and didn’t have to wait too long. It was cold and rainy but it worked out nicely
