Papercity reports Ciel, the ground floor restaurant and lounge at 4411 San Felipe, opens in December. Here are several nuggets from yesterday's article: "Co-owner Adel Sadek tapped his own architectural and design firm, Studio Five, to conjure a glamorous St. Tropez vibe for the 8,000-square-foot space." "There’s a decidedly celestial aesthetic...High above diners’ heads is a faux sky adrift with fluffy clouds, with orb-shaped lights reflected against a mirrored ceiling to represent the planets in the night sky. French contemporary artist Philippe Shangti...was commissioned to create a trio of 12-foot paintings of bare women for the dining room, while a six-foot sculpture of Zeus — God of the sky, naturally — is splashed with hand-painted tattoos care of Mexican artist Karla de Lara." https://www.papercitymag.com/restaurants/ciel-restaurant-houston-opening-4411-san-felipe-building-adel-sadek/ Renders included in the article5 points

A crew is setting up what looks like a big tent, curious what it might be for, a special event at the Menil, ground breaking ceremony for the Hotel Saint Augustine or perhaps lunch area for the workers? A security guy didn't know.5 points

While Houston has no zoning, the Chicken Districting is very specific. Shep/Durhan is a chicken sandwich district. Ella is a chicken finger district. This is why Layne's is going in across the street from Raising Cane's.2 points

This makes absolutely no sense. There is already a freeway over that part of the bayou. What do they really hope to accomplish. If Turner is really for the project, then he needs to start being more vocal and shooting these bad ideas down before they start.2 points

Classic cutting off one's nose to spite one's face as I am sure no one has a full appreciation of the real (i.e., feasible) alternatives. Not to mention where were all of these people, what, 10 years ago, when the planning process started? At the very least they should have the burden of presenting an actual, preferred alternative to advance start a meaningful dialogue. However, Turner is by all appearances for it, the GHP is for it, I am confident Turner will be able to "herd the cats" when it comes to a City Council vote, if any. Hidalgo is the wild card. It remains amazing to me that Mealer didn't make this a centerpiece campaign issue instead of going on and on about crime--it would've diluted some of the crazy for the moderate voting block.2 points

@IntheKnowHouston yeah I'm aware of that, but like what I was saying, the main issue in the area isn't the buildings but rather the street design itself. Rice Village could have done more to change their portion of the street design. Also, it would have been ideal if they partnered with the city and/ or other developers immediately north of rice village to tie the area together with a more cohesive street design. It just frustrates me because I work off of Buffalo Speedway and I saw how the city tore up what seemed like a perfect street when this area needs it more. The city often does that and I don't understand why. Im legit not asking for a complete make over of the area, I'm asking for the bare minimum; creating sidewalks, plant some trees/ landscapes, paint some cross walks on the street.2 points

Confused by their plans. Is Baylor St. Luke's still planning on moving inpatient services to McNair/building an inpatient tower? Or are they staying in the old building in the TMC?1 point

😄 Yeah, I've heard that schpiel before. Listen, much as I'm loathe to admit it, I'm an old-timer Houstonian. The old-timer part is what I don't like admitting. My earliest memory of my hometown is when we moved back in 1962. Rome is organic. Houston is a mess. But, like the drunken mess of an uncle who looks and sounds like Bill the Cat, it's our mess and we love it. Most of the time. Some of the time. Sort of. OK, we know where to find the good stuff and love the food. And it's getting better. Except for that cr@ppy corrugated metal storage box.1 point

Well, no surprise there, but Mattress Mack has really thin skin. Like most MAGA types out there, he can dish it out but sure as hell can't take it. This letter sounds like something Trump would write, albeit with better grammar, no misspellings (except for Mack ironically?!), and, er, no weird sexual innuendos. The level of self-awareness calling someone else "sanctimonious," when he personally appointed himself as the savior of Harris County and went around telling everyone that Lina was essentially pro-people getting murdered, is just non-existent. The above said, Lina should lead by example--a mature and professional politician would not have made such a needless dig and instead have been more gracious. A true "humanitarian," one full of "goodwill and unwavering support for communities," would not write this letter, which has not only insults, but ends with a not-so-veiled threat. Why don't you run yourself next time, Mack? Mattress Mack claps back at Lina Hidalgo for election dig (chron.com)1 point
