  3. There is still a lot work to be done on interior units. Exterior looks good. Although I'm kind of surprised they didn't paint or cover the bare concrete columns.

  4. Been bad at updating but they've poured some concrete for the driveway and are getting ready for more. They've also been putting on the siding. The south side of the building shows it better.

  8. I talked with an employee of Central Cadillac as I rode by. Asked him when they are moving out to the new south loop location. He said they should move spring' 23. I then asked him what was to become of the land and building. He said he thought it might become a nightclub. Cool mid century building that is fairly large and has 2 parking areas that they own. I could actually see that happening until something grander where to come along and whoever owns the property gets a fat payday. I think it's ideal for high rise apartments in the long run.

  10. Another combined No Hitter against da jankees. "It’s the first time the Yankees have been no-hit since six Astros pitchers combined to no-hit them on June 11, 2003 at old Yankee Stadium. Those are the only two no-hitters thrown against the Yankees since 1958." https://www.espn.com/mlb/game/_/gameId/401355308 https://www.mlb.com/news/cristian-javier-astros-no-hit-yankees

  11. I met Isiah Carey once, when he and his cameraman were set up outside the downtown post office soliciting comments from customers for a news story. I really had to resist the urge to ask him if he'd ingested any bugs recently.

  14. I will say I am proud every time I see this building in the national news as a cutaway on a Planned Parenthood story that has nothing to do with Houston, as if it were emblematic for the entire organization. If I were on the architecture team, I’d sure take that as a point of pride. Thank you, @Highrise Tower for reminding us.

  22. I agree that it is tacky. In fact, I find the whole building to be gaudy and ugly. However, Houston has no shortage of sterile glass boxes. I think the city could stand to have a few tasteless, garish, and cheesy buildings. Over the coming decades, for better or worse, this building will be a landmark. No doubt.

  23. I get the sentiment. The solution is quite simple, really: don't live in the dead-center of the nation's fourth-largest city. If you can afford to live near Bissonnet and Ashby, you can afford to live just about anywhere else. People have a right to control their own property. But they don't also have a right to control everything else within their eyesight. Especially when they are surrounded by seven million other people who also have their own interests.

  24. This is so disingenuous. There will be ZERO added traffic on Wroxton Court, and I really have a hard time believing that the traffic on Bissonnet will be significantly worse, especially considering there were apartments here before (as has been frequently noted in this thread). I don't know if it's a property value issue, or that they just don't want a high rise in their backyard because of privacy or views or whatever... but this is almost right in the center of Houston, there's going to be density whether they like it or not. I can see several high rises from my backyard (in a significantly less dense area of town), and you don't see me crying about it.

  29. Most/all of their properties are retail. I'm in disbelief that we'd actually get retail right there. Its badly needed, just in disbelief. Also, I feel like the neighborhood would fight it. BUT, if we get a little Marq'E mixed with some 19th and Yale from their portfolio in this spot...myyyyyy goodness. It would change the complexion of museum district.

  30. Condos actually start at 16th floor. That floor is the common area (pool, club house, etc) but it does have a penthouse on that floor and I think that's what the patio is for. The rest of the floor is common area so no patio and thus the weird asymmetry. Starting from floors 17-29 are regular condos and 30-35 are the penthouses. Thompson Hotel is up to 15th floor but not sure how much of that are rooms vs parking.

  31. Why are he and Jackson Lee framing this as if they had no idea about it? Are they that disconnected or are they taking the opportunity to cash in on political clout? And on the net-zero housing pledge demands: I'm pretty sure that will happen naturally when these lots are replaced with something twice as tall with less parking...
