  1. From the Sept. 15 presentation to City Council Economic Development Committee: Southwest currently has 3 gates at Bush IAH, they want 2 more. The airport still has requests for more gates from a number of airlines. The Airport is in the early stages of the domestic redevelopment program, which will probably add 6 gates to Terminal A. Right now they are in the process of meeting with the various airlines which will lead to getting their commitments to the program. The Terminal A expansion will begin while the International expansion program is underway. They expect it might be completed 6-9 months after the completion of the international expansion. It seems likely that Spirit might move from Terminal A to Terminal D. United has shared preliminary plans to add 2 piers to the north side of terminal B. That would also require United to remodel their Terminal B Central Processor. (United controls Terminal B, so none of this would be part of the Airport's Domestic Terminal Renewal Program. The Airport will soon be putting out an RFP for the complete replacement of the subway train system.

  2. Wish this opening sooner, you're starting to see more and more people return to DT for sports events and work. This weekend I saw groups of people bunched around this area walking their dogs and jogging and a few streets down by the Rocket's basketball area just sitting and talking and hanging out which is a welcomed sight. I know its a smaller park, but giving some green back to the downtown population is a big-ish deal, especially residents. Plus, it may entice businesses to finally lease all that space in the towers close to this park. I think this, plus the hub that has developed around the intersection of bike lanes by Phoenicia will have a bigger effect than we think. Would be a big draw for all those people that mill about trying to figure out where to go with their scooters from discovery green, or people who are there for games/work/whatever will have another place to go and a great restaurant/coffee shop/bakery to patron (assuming Tout Suite does move there) on this side of 59.

  3. It sounds like this would be the lowrise retail + residential tower on the N side of the project, next to the apartment tower under construction. From a few pages back, we got a preview of what this might be: "SITE B1 2 or 5 Story Mixed Services Concept TBD End user is driving final concept. Once identified, design concept to be progressed further. SITE B High Rise TBD No status currently" The meeting packet identified Site B as the one I just mentioned. Recent renderings show a tower ~32 stories and a 1-2 story retail center there, so the plans may have changed (upsized even!) recently.

  4. This is going to be a much needed upgrade to that street and for the area. I love the old charm of the neighborhood but infrastructure is still lacking, even with the Green Line running down Harrisburg.

  7. Yes, 5050 Woodway. Nice building. It's just my mom now, my dad passed away last year (just before Covid). I go at least once a week to visit her. Try to time my visits to avoid the worst of the traffic. I could never live in the Galleria area... too many cars!

  8. From TDECU Stadium, this building appears to be attached to the Southern tip of downtown. It along with 800 Crawford really appear to extend the skyline from that vantage point.

  14. Wildly Popular Hot Dog Purveyor Yoyo’s Will Open Its First Permanent Location in Houston The Rice Village favorite is known for attracting lengthy lines for its juicy, crispy dogs by Brittanie Shey@brittanieshey Sep 20, 2021, 12:15pm CDT A wildly-popular late night food cart known for its elaborately loaded all-beef hot dogs will soon land a permanent home on Washington Avenue. Yoyo’s Hot Dog’s first standalone restaurant will be located at 4620 Washington Avenue. An opening timeline for the restaurant has not yet been announced, but signage at the spot is already up. Yoyo’s was first founded in 2010 with the goal of elevating a “universally cherished but ultimately misunderstood” food item — the hot dog. In the decade since, the stand has developed a massive cult following, with fans calling the food a “life-changing experience,” “the dankest dogs in Houston,” “a revolutionary hot dog experience,” and “Like New York, but better.” Recent video from the cart’s Rice Village location shows several dozen people lined up for the dogs at half past midnight on a Saturday evening. According to the restaurant’s website, owner Danny “Yoyo” Kim spent years refining his method of cooking the restaurant’s all-beef Nathan’s Famous franks, resulting in a crispy-skinned, extra-juicy, flavorful dog. Diners can then dress up their dogs with all manner of toppings, including crunchy fried onions, curry ketchup, warm cream cheese, spicy mustard, and honey mayo. Though the stand first got its start at Washington Avenue-adjacent bar Fox Hollow, it eventually moved to Rice Village. There’s also now a food truck, a location in College Station, and a halal outpost in Sugar Land that is open for both lunch and late into the night. The Washington Avenue location, when it opens, will likely be a popular spot for late night customers of the neighborhood’s many bars. Eater has reached out to the restaurant for more details and will update this post as more information becomes available. https://houston.eater.com/2021/9/20/22684062/yoyos-hot-dogs-opening-washington-avenue-houston-permanent-location

  16. Whoa. A single ground lease tenant for 50,000 square feet is a huge space. Trader Joe's? Also, since when has a 40 story residential been a part of this plan? I

  17. Stopped by Teaspresso this AM. Still in their soft opening. If you've been to the Heights location, then you'll be familiar with the vibe and menu. A little expensive for boba imo (a boba with one topping and a 18% tip ran me $7), but it's good. The person I spoke to, who I believe is one of the owners, lives closeby in the neighborhood, so grab some boba and support local!

  19. That picture is at least 4 yrs old, notice the red tower crane that was used to build the parking garage addition to Memorial Hermann. That building is my favorite one in TMC, I like that they change the colors on it frequently.

  25. Hilton Houston Post Oak by the Galleria faces debts of $91.2M, Chapter 11 filings show https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2021/09/14/hilton-houston-post-oak-galleria-chapter-11-debts.html New details have emerged about the Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding initiated by Hilton Houston Post Oak by the Galleria late last month. In court filings submitted to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida, lawyers for the hotel said the ongoing Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic blew a hole in its main sources of revenue, challenging the hotel’s ability to pay its creditors. The hotel’s creditors claim they are owed a combined $91.2 million, Andrew Zaron of Miami-based León Cosgrove said in the court filings. León Cosgrove is representing the hotel’s owner, a subsidiary of Palm Beach, Florida-based Ecclestone Organization Inc. The Aug. 31 bankruptcy filing was signed by company President E. Llwyd Ecclestone Jr.
