  1. From this morning .... she's definitely a beauty. This combined with the Texas Tower will have big impacts on this part of Downtown.

Retail Leasing Flyer for Texas Tower Chicago-based Italian restaurant Etta will take one of the spaces; likely Texas @ Travis More good news: The same company bringing Etta to Texas Tower has also leased the Pavilion space (the round part) for another concept. https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2021/06/16/what-if-syndicate-etta-restaurant-texas-tower.html?utm_source=st&utm_medium=en&utm_campaign=ae&utm_content=ho&ana=e_ho_ae&j=24169560&senddate=2021-06-16

  3. certainly better than a giant parking lot. It's going to take them a long time to reach that area. I think its like Phase 4 or 5. Probably a 5-10 years down the road.

  7. east, but yeah, I imagine it was a 'hey, we're going to build this walking bridge'. then everyone came out and threw all sorts of expectations, and other requirements, then they just kind of backed out of the idea.

  8. If it was 20 years ago, this would have been the end of her career. TV reporters are a dime a dozen and there are always younger and more attractive reporters who are willing to work for nothing coming up every year. But Hecker is probably going to end up getting elevated to a national job at OAN or Blaze or end up with a youtube channel making millions. What is amazing is that her big whistleblower story is just pathetic. Her manager told her she didn't want to run bitcoin stories at 5-6pm because the ratings would be bad due to low income black viewers not being interested in bitcoin. The other scandal is that she thought that Fox News shut her down on stories about hydroxychoroquine because Trump was for it. Fox News. And basically, they did not want her going rogue on social media. The other big revelation: ads go to the highest bidder and the CDC has paid for ad time. And she is unable to provide a concrete example of ad dollars driving content. If she was a journalist who was worth a crap, she would have easily been able to do that. We all know it happens. So, after all of this fuss, she can't even establish what Noam Chomsky and Ed Hermann demonstrated conclusively in Manufacturing Consent 33 years ago. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Project-Veritas-releases-video-of-Fox-26-reporter-16250476.php

  11. With the redevelopment they have planned at Tony Marron park, I think this will be a great location for this kind of development.

  12. Thats what you get when you been out of Houston this long, the first to go is direction haha. Appreciate the rebound. It probably wasn't even other people. I imagine it was explored at some point in the design process. Why not right? But like most things the devil is in the detail, and upon further code anaylsis, research into stakeholders that would have to be involved, the engineer who was like...really? are you sure, etc... Permitting would have been a pain. Who knows whether it was a client idea or architect idea too.

  13. I was actually just thinking about how all of the work seemed to slow down within a week of my prediction. 6 months later and I would still guess one to two months left on the street work! However, the final product is starting to show through and it's going to be quite the upgrade.

  15. Haven't found any pics yet but found this mention in The Montrose Voice (Feb 26, 1982) on page 5 (third paragraph of "Montrose Mouth"): "The offices of the MONTROSE VOICE will be at 3317 Montrose, third floor, starting next week." "(The 3317 Montrose Building is across the street from Kroger - the building that houses Kwik Kopy.)"

  16. Would make sense the CDC is outbidding to put notices to the public. We have a local news reporter trying to push a conspiracy theory. Which one deserves air time?

  17. One thing it does is create a wonderful layered textural wall that had gaps before they built the Brava. It fills in the gap that was between Market Square Tower and Republic Calpine buildings from the east and north like coming in from 59 north or I10 east. Brava's eastern facade is much more exciting than the western side. I think this is definitely the most exciting small highrises to be added to our skyline in a long time. One of the nice things about viewing from the northeast is you can still see both the Esperson and the Gulf buildings, while enjoying all the shiny new toys on the north east side of town. It will also be interesting to see what the new 42 story high rise does to the eastern skyline.

  18. I love the look of their developments. This and the Main building have such great scale and brickwork. I hope they build more all over town!

  22. Also people don't know how much pedestrian bridges cost. That bridge alone in the original renders alone would have cost at least $1 million. They aren't cheap. Then the city gets involved for easements, then the parks and rec department get involved, then a host of new code requirements come up, etc... Why bother. After the Allen Parkway redevelopment a couple years ago its a much better walking environment anyway, and an existing pedestrian bridge is like a 5-10min walk further south.

  23. Y'all get into some strange specifics sometimes. Wow look at that crazy land bridge.....wait where is the railing, oh you know someone is going to muck that up! There will more than likely be a railing. Obvious can't confirm as I'm not on this project, but my professional opinion would say, yes indeed due to code reasons on multiple fronts, its also above a busy rode you will see a railing, and given what I've seen the design packets floating around they will probably make it flow seamlessly with the design. Only thing I don't know is if one would be able to walk up to it. I imagine the edges around and up to the pinnacle of the bridge will be extensively landscaped.

  24. Wow they really knocked it out of the ballpark with this. The facade is really pretty and the amount of common space is astounding considering that the current building has 0 common areas. This will be a badly-needed upgrade for hanszen, which is typically considered the college with the least amount of identity. After this gets built, Hanzsen and sid will have the nicest facilities. Lovett is officially at the bottom of the pile.

  25. Nothing too exciting to share - though this sign for a civil engineering firm popped up in the green space next to the old Luckys...perhaps that's a positive sign. Not sure what percentage of units sold they need to reach to move forward? Saw a sign that 30% were sold months ago and seems like a few more have gone pending since then.

  26. Walgreen's was built sometime before 2000, probably mid-1990's. I remember, because the Art Institute left some great furniture curbside when their building was demo'd. (edit: 1994, per HCAD)

  28. I've decided to believe that this is being designed by professionals who know what they are doing, know how to spot risks and know how to mitigate them. It's the same people who decided not to populate the Eastern Glades lake with Crocodiles and chose crushed granite rather than crushed glass for the running trails.
